English Turn Golf & Country Club

About
English Turn Golf & Country Club is a Jack Nicklaus design that was crafted in 1988 to host the New Orleans PGA Tour event. Nicklaus designed the course to be enjoyed equally by spectators and golfers, incorporating gallery berms and spectator mounds throughout. This challenging design is known for its undulating greens that will test even the most seasoned players. Each hole has a unique design that combines strategically placed bunkers, including large waste bunkers, and sloping grass swales. There is also carefully sculpted mounding along the edges of the fairways. On top of that, water comes into play on nearly every hole. English Turn's signature hole, the 15th, is a tricky par 5 with an island green but it's the final hole, a par 4 with water all along the left side, that is rumored to be the golf course's toughest.

Excellent customer service
From the bag drop, the pro shop, to the starter, out on the course and finally back to the clubhouse could not have been treated better felt like a member. Oh and yes the course was in outstanding shape. a must play
Good for mid Winter season
A couple of greens had some fungus issues but over all course in good shape for the time of year.
Staff was friendly and receptive.
Range balls are no longer included in your green fee (that sucks a bit but understood)
english turn
great jack nicklaus course. must be good in all aspects of game to play well. very fair course
Horrible Starter
We booked the course for 3 people and there was a single who apparently booked the same time,so the starter asked if we mind teaming up with the single. Of course not no problem but then he proceeded to tell my group that we needed to ride in the cart with the single guy,NO WAY! We didn't mind playing with the guy but to ride in a cart with a total stranger amid Covid-19? The starter claimed they needed the cart! But he had just told 2 other guys (in separate carts) that they could go off on the back.
everything was great
excellent facilities, free range balls, friendly and helpful personnel, course in prime condition, greens rolled true, bunkers and waste areas use fine river sand rather than white sand, not as fluffy, much easier to hit out of.
Best of south Louisiana
Beautiful very tough course. Played on a very windy day and still really enjoyed it. Beautiful design and facilities.
Great layout and challenging
Was in New Orleans for the Thanksgiving holiday. Checked in and staff was friendly. Range balls were included but there wasn’t many balls on the range. Starter was friendly and courteous. Course layout is great and challenging. Bunkers were average and the greens were below average. Played with a member and he told me they were going to redo all the bunkers and greens. This is a great layout and fairways were great for November. I hope they put some money back into the greens and bunkers. I would play again despite the greens and bunkers because the course is that good.
Expected Better from English Turn
Course was not in great condition. Greens were awful except for a couple of holes.
Not worth the price IMO.
Post Zeta
I'm sorry that this review is not as positive as i expected it to be. In the course's defense, hurricane Zeta had just made a direct hit 4 days before. So in reality, i guess we were lucky it was even open. However, it started with almost missing our tee time because a group of 14 members decided to show up and cut in front of us on the number 1 tee. It's a good thing I've been around courses enough to know how to address the starter in this situation. Still, awkward to have to tee off in front of a large group after that. What made it worse is that after we got up to the tee we had to wait a few minutes because there were now 3 groups on #1. Green, fairway, tee box. At this point, I'm thinking it's going to be a 6 hour round. As we get going, I immediately notice the lack of yardage markers. I grew up without range finders and hate using them now. Part of the game is figuring out your distance and adjusting for the wind. I was constantly looking for sprinkler heads they didn't exist. So needless to say, I was all over the place with club selection. That was frustrating. Also, the course layout was not clear. How is a person playing it for the first time supposed to know that there is water cutting through the fairway at 240 yards? I mean, do i really have to use my phone app and a range finder on EVERY shot? Complete BS! Again, my opinion. All in all, I give the course an overall 4 rating because I can tell it was a nice course. I bet it's fun once you learn how to play it, distances and shot selection, etc. The staff was great. And the fact that it was playable 4 days after a cat 3 hurricane blew through there was impressive. I hate that I'll probably never see it in it's full glory, but at least I can say I played it once.
