Excellent course, among the best I've played
Everything about The Jewel was first class.
Quality putting green, driving range and even a chipping green with a bunker to practice sand shots.
The conditions of everything on the course was excellent, which was impressive since it had just rained a lot the previous two days and the entire night before. We weren't even sure if the course would be playable that day. I was especially impressed by the great shape of the bunkers despite all the rain.
The greens were immaculate, rolled well and were slightly on the quick side, but each hole had at least a little break, which made us all miss a lot of putts.
The rough was surprisingly thick; thicker than I was used to.
I loved the course layout and variety of different holes and tee shots. Almost every shot felt uniquely different and interesting.
On the front 9, holes 1-3 and 8-9 were more of a treeless "links" style with plenty of bunkers, including fairway bunkers, whereas holes 4-7 were suddenly "back in the woods" with fewer bunkers.
The back 9 was more of a traditional layout with more water and scenic views of the surrounding terrain.
Six different tees to play from (Red, Copper, White, Blue and Black, as well as a Blue/White option) to offer an appropriate challenge for a wide range of skill levels.
Quality on-course amenities, like plenty of drinking water and actual bathroom buildings instead of, say, outhouses or nothing at all.
Nice clubhouse with bar & restaurant and outdoor patio on top floor overlooking the course. The chicken breast on my caesar salad after we played was surprisingly well-cooked; juicy & delicious. Although, someone in our group complained about the long wait at the turn for a hot dog.
They also had electric golf carts, which I always prefer over gas.
Watch out for the grass in front of the 15th tee box
A member of our group hit it into the long grass just past the red tee box. He took 3 hacks from there, lost his ball, and ended up with a large amount of native wild grass on his head. He is still complaining that he can’t find the ball.
Great deal
Great deal for 18 holes and a cart. Course was fun to play despite the rain. Staff was helpful and super nice. Would play again!!
Jewel is a hidden gem!
Nice track in the state of Minnesota! Greens were nice fast, making it a very nice experience!
Worth the drive.
Most folks have a significant drive to get to Lake City but The Jewel is worth it .
This course is fun to play , with plenty of challenge and 5 sets of tee box’s so it’s appropriate for all golfers. Very well maintained ( a few fairways with some small brown spots - looks like a fungus or something) but it did not really affect play. Very friendly staff . Restaurant at clubhouse has good food too.
The Jewel
The Jewel was great. Fair course in wonderful condition. I played terribly this particular day but it didn’t take away how beautiful the course is. Bent grass fairways are like carpet and green were in great shape. Rolled true.
We had a 3 twosomes behind us but we kept up the 4 some in front of us. We still felt a little rushed at times. I wish they would’ve paired those other twosomes together behind us.
Great spot and a must play.
True test of your game
This course will test your game in every which way. From the tips, there are some of the most difficult shots in the state. No nonsense here if you hit the ball well you won’t have to worry about OB or hazards too much. Layout is fantastic, back 9 is an absolute blast.
Great course
I’ve been playing this course for a few years now and this has to be some of the best conditions this late in October. Hopefully the weather cooperates and I can play it again before the end of the season.
Not bad, not great
I wouldn’t rush back, but I would go back. Pace was horrible. Had to wait on every single shot.
