Lydd golf
Played in January. Only playable course in the area given the rain we have had the course is in very good condition with only the bunkers watered logged. Greens also very good. Often windy next to the coast and today no exception. A lot of water hazards together with the wind mean you have to be quite accurate otherwise your have a bad day. Overall good challenging course that is playable all year in a very nice part of the country.
Mr Coyne
Lovely course. Was delayed due to frost but the course was still in great condition considering the time of year :)
Lydd Links
Excellent course in very challenging conditions. Great covid management.
Pleasant and challenging course
Course was well laid out and had a good balance to it. Lots of water, mainly down the left hand side of holes made it challenging. Unfortunately the weather was pretty awful when we played (high winds and some heavy rain). Course greens and fairways were in good condition. Bunkers flooded and some parts of the rough saturated.
Would definitely return, and hopefully play in better weather!
A lovely marsh course
Despite the weather being unhelpful - very windy and a number of heavy down pours, I enjoyed the course. Low lying and flat with a number of water obstacles, the course is a good test of accuracy of shot and control. The greens were in excellent condition.
Will definitely play again.
Great Links
Really enjoy Lydd over playing a lot of local courses.
A real test with wind as well makes it more interesting and enjoyable.
Excellent value for money especially in such hard times financially for most.
If I had just one complaint it would be the greens and bunkers.
Greens are a bit bumpy and bunkers are poor In Terms of quality of sand.
Other than that I absolutely love this course and usually play well.
Still no birdies but I’ll keep trying.
On the plus side lots of pars but two double bogeys.
Lydd golf
A good challenge for all abilities. Beware of the water and ditches. Needs good course management. Definitely play again.
Great value
Play here with a group of 8, who play twice a month at various courses. This place is a little gem £22 each when booking online. Course is difficult if windy but today was great. Given the time of year and the rain over the past month the course was in good nick, although work was being done on some tees. Nice bar for beer afterwards as well. Our party know we will be back soon.
A gem of a course
Lydd is a fantastic course. Challenging with many water hazards and well-designed holes. Not easy to score well as most wayward shots are punished with several par 4 holes playing long. Described as an inland links course, and although it is not true links, it's a fair description. Lydd has a good range and catering facilities too. Amazing value and under £25.
Not for high handicappers
This is a very flat course which I thought would make it relatively easy after heavy rain but no! Nothing to do with the rain but more to do with the random water hazards that scatter the course. The par-4's were almost identical: dogleg, water and random bunkers. The design should be more imaginitative, the same gores for the par-3's.
The greens were inconsistent, some in perfect condition but others very poor. It made putting accurately impossible.. Not surprisingly being limks the roughs were unforgiving, no complaint about that.
The staff were fantastic, they met all of the Covid rules and the snacks excellent.
Take loads of balls, you'll need them.
Lydd golf
A challenging course especially in the wind and wet. Needs some good course management. Tees could be better, greens not to bad considering weather conditions we have had.
great layout
i have played lydd a good few times and its always a challenge, with water in play on a number of holes and if the wind blowing it adds to the difficulty
the tees could do with some attention but the greens are fast and reasonable for the green fee.
bring load of old balls as the roughs thick and the waters always a risk.
Great bird life
Lovely course, good greens, no hills
Lots of wild life, mainly birds, lots of water and reeds which does mean some lost balls.
Good value
Very tough in anything more than a breeze!
As the title suggests! For longer handicappers, as the 3 of us were, this is an enjoyable, but very tough challenge. Amongst the toughest of the pay and play courses down in this corner of s-e England.
The peninsula on which the course sits is reputed to have it's own wind factors, which other courses, locally, don't necessarily experience - that does seem to be the case!
In what was a strong-ish breeze, holes 12 through 15 were quite brutal and and there were some scores almost into double figures!
Water features large, on all but 4(?) of the holes, and the course designers like their little 'necks' of land which you have to negotiate on approaches to the greens.
Greens were of a mixed nature but generally good and quite quick.
Overall, a very enjoyable round in stunning surroundings.
