Course was in good condition despite a downpour in the morning and some standing water
Only gripe was the 3 ball in front absolutely no idea of gold etiquette. Waiting for the hole to completely empty before teeing off makes the whole experience less enjoyable. Not the course fault but certainly annoying
In Great Condition post lockdown
We played here last Decemeber and he course was very muddy and wet. Lockdown has done wonders for the course though and it's in great condition - the greens were wonderful. Good work!
Nice long course
Very good value for money. Long challenging course. Only gripe was with hole signage as was confusing
Lovely course.
With Covid restrictions in place we were unable to take advantage of all the facilities at this course but from a golfing perspective it was excellent.
We really enjoyed the course layout and found it to be very well maintained. I thought the undulating fairways provided a few surprises along the way and I am sure that with spring upon us we have yet to see the course looking its best.
All in all I found it to be a very interesting and pleasant course to play and just like Arnold Schwarzenegger might say, “ i’ll be back“
Excellent condition
West Berks was in excellent condition considering the time of year and the amount of rain that had fallen that week. It’s long, so testing if you’re a high handicap, but well worth playing as it will only improve you’re game. I play off 24 and would definitely play this course more regularly due to the quality of the conditions and how it will help my game improve.
Enjoyed the course, though some of the greens appear to be suffering with patches of disease apparent.
Excellent Value for Money
Really enjoyed our round on a windy Friday afternoon. The course is challenging but fair. Lots of trees that require accuracy but also quite long that requires taking risk with the driver too. Greens were very true although a couple had a little damage. The wind made it even more challenging. We will definitely be back to try again
Windy day at West Berks
We paid £23 each as a two ball on a windy Friday, which is a bargain for a course of this quality. The course was in good condition, considering the recent weather, the greens being a particular highlight, running very smooth and true. My only complaint about the course is that the holes are quite ‘samey’, not much variety, mainly straight up and down but all in all we enjoyed the round and would probably play again. We were disappointed with the welcome we didn’t get in the pro shop. I explained that we hadn’t been to the course before but all we got was a finger pointing to the first tee and instructions to follow the group in front. Well derrr! No welcome to the club, no saying where the warm up area was, nothing, nada, zilch. Luckily the barman was friendlier after our round or we may not have bothered.
Great value - course needs some work
First things first £14 for 18 holes of golf is an absolute bargain - so no complaints there at all. I'll definitely be returning for that alone coupled with its proximity to Newbury. As for the course itself it's a mixed bag. With recent rain I'd expected greens to be slow - but you absolutely need to hammer your putts. And the numerous bare patches (now caked mud) on various greens make it a lottery - caused by disease I'm guessing? Tee boxes a touch tired and the bunkers littered with stones (some of the worst I've seen) - also more like building sand rather than something you'd like your sand wedge to meet.Fairways in OK nick and rough is very mild (after a recent trip to the links of Northumberland that was a relief!). Consistent distant markers appreciated - as is use of different coloured flags to indicate pin position. Pace of pace good considering 4 balls ahead - other clubs take note! Much longer front 9 than back 9 and just a moderate challenge from the yellow tees. Overall an ideal location for a good value practice round with easy walking - just a bit uninspiring (couldn't name you a stand-out hole).
Long, narrow so rewarded being straight
Excellent condition. Some great surrounding vistas, so a pleasure to play. A long and narrow course, but you can play out if in the trees. Will be back
Not Bad For The Money
Played here as was equidistant between me and a mate. Was £14 a head for 18 holes. The course is quite challenging, very long off the tips, and with very tight fairways in parts. Some holes were beautifully maintained, some were a bit of a mess, especially the greens and bunkers (we self-designated these as GUR as they were like playing out of a pebble beach). It's not a particularly inventive layout. The 12th is an amazing short Par 4, with outstanding views. It wasn't busy so me and my mate played it again! All in all, not too bad, but you get what you pay for.
