Must try this course
This course is like getting your dessert at the end of the meal. It's the one you've been waiting for.
They have wonderful staff that's very friendly. Grounds crew stopped what he was doing to come tend the flag for me (recognizing that I was playing alone), very polite staff asking if you need anything, etc.
Course was in great shape. Some of the best greens I've played on since moving to Arizona 8 years ago (Phoenix or Tucson). Ball rolls true on the green. If you missed the putt, it's actually you and not the course (can't say that about many places). Bottled water was provided. GPS on cart is accurate and allows for interaction such as picking placement on the hole (giving yardage of targets for accurate club selection). Facilities well kept (bathrooms were very clean etc). The course lay out is challenging but still fun to play. Played from the tips (blacks).
It may be a drive and cost more than other courses in the area but you get your money's worth. I will definitely be back and would recommend this course to anyone that appreciates the game of golf.
MATUERING NICELY
We have played Sewailo 2-3 times per year since it opened. The plant material was new and small with little shade, and there were several gotcha holes where the fairway/hazard configurations were hidden from view. The landscaping has grown well, some of the more penile holes have been made more playable, and the grounds maintenance has been good. The GPS equipped carts are a good amenity, and the staff was friendly and helpful. Overall, the entire facility has matured very well, our entire foursome was very pleased with our experience, and we would definitely recommend Sewailo to other golfers.
Sewailo is a Treasure
I live on the other side of town, and don't play Sewailo as often as I would like. So, it's a real treat when I do. The design of this course is unique for Southern Arizona. Water comes into play on a majority of the holes, and that is something you just don't often encounter in this region. The course is hosting a major amateur tournament in the next couple of days. So, it was in excellent shape. Due to the monsoons and summer heat, most courses cannot make that claim this time of year. Conditions were not perfect, but about as good as it gets anywhere in the middle of July. The maintenance staff does a pretty good job all the time, though. I've never encountered this course in bad condition. One thing that players need to be aware of, especially this time of year, is that water is only available at the two comfort stations and near the starters position at the practice area. Bring your own water container and refill it every chance you get. It's hot out there. A cart girl does make the rounds, but I don't know if that is the case on weekdays. Stay hydrated.
Don’t hesitate
Sewailo is a must play in Tucson. This course is second to none. If you can stand a little heat, jump on the discounted rates asap. If I lived in Tucson this would be my home course in the summer. Don’t hesitate.
My favorite Tucson golf course
I generally play city courses (for the price) but get to play here, despite a 50-minute drive, with the summer rates. It is a rare opportunity to deal with so many water hazards. It must be nice to be your own country with water rights.
Beautiful course
Challenging course with lots of sand and quite a bit of water for a desert course.
Wonderful day on the course
Course is really wonderful. Challenging and interesting holes but playable for not very good golfer. Beautiful views and the course is in great shape. Try to play it every time I get to Tucson in the summer
A Desert Oasis
A beautiful course in the desert that introduces water and many strategically placed sand traps.
The staff does an excellent job of welcoming you and creating just enough space between groups of players to keep a constant flow without losing momentum (although you may lose a ball or two if you're not careful).
In the heat of the summer bringing plenty of liquids to stay hydrated is a must, although there is a periodic beverage cart, when it's 100+ the desert will get the best of you if you're not careful.
Great experience, can't wait to do it again!
