My playing partner. 80 years old and still nailing his drives! Photo submitted by JettSpot on 07/11/2017
Vidanta Norman before the Mexico Open
Wanted to play Vidanta Norman as they ready it for the Mexico Open April 24-27. While it was in pretty good shape, the greens were sanded and far slower than usual, and it was cart path only (something the staff failed to mention when I called in advance to ask about restrictions). Fairways are excellent, sand traps were very heavy (different from previous experience). Our caddy Ramiro successfully negotiated us passing the foursome in front of us on hole 4, who were basically non-golfers playing a scramble (on hole #1 one of their group even walked 80 yards back from the green down the fairway to take my ball while we were hitting our tee shots). Once past them, it was clear sailing, with nobody in front. In hindsight it will probably be better to play right after the Open to experience the best condition. Regardless, a great day.
Exceeded Expectations
Course was fantastic and staff were extremely friendly. Some helpful hints if it’s your first time playing
1. Give yourself extra time to get to the course. Taxi will drop you off and you will need to catch a shuttle to the Proshop (ride is about 10 minutes). Once you check in you will be assigned a caddie who will direct you to the driving range. This is another 5ish minute cart ride. We arrived early and as the course was slow, we were able to tee off early
2. Proshop does not accept cash
3. If you are not staying at Vidanta, one person in your taxi will have to leave a government piece of ID at the security gate. On your way out, make sure to let your taxi driver know you have to pick this up or they will drive right past.
4. Use an internet extension to search for discounts on your your tee time.
PGA Tournament ready
The course will host the Mexico Open PGA tournament next month, and it is in superb condition
Beautiful golf course
I just loved the golf round today with caddie Javier, pretty nice shots first nine, beautiful course, beautiful views. The entire staff at proshop very friendly and the shuttle very fast. Love it and hopefully I'll be back.
Loved it
Played the course twice this week and felt much more comfortable the second time around. It's cart path only because of the upcoming Mexico Open (end of April) but the plus-side is that the course is in outstanding condition. The course is quite flat with only modest terrain change but in the afternoon sun it can get tiring if you are hitting it where the cart can't go. Having a caddy (mandatory, one per foursome) certainly helped a few times in that regard. Whites at 6300 (par 73) were ample for me (10 hcp); the folks who I played with who took on the blues at 6800 (10+ hcps) struggled, especially as the wind came up into the afternoon (as it does). The course has a little of everything: short, medium and long par 3s; a good mix of par 4s (including a very driveable one) and six par 5s, including a couple of monsters on the back 9, If you're staying on site at Vidanta it's easy to check in and store your clubs overnight. I imagine it's a lot trickier if you are coming from off-site. The facilities are great, the staff was very friendly and every caddy I had over the week (4) was very helpful.
Cart Path Only
Didnt tell you was cart path only, 4 groups on one hole ,caddy showed up on 4th hole. Course in good shape and great group of guys I got paired up with just too bad with lack of communication.
Fun golf course. Watch for the crocs
Played from the blue tees as a 12 handicap. Thought the course was pretty fair. It was cart path only since they were 2 months away from the Mexico open but I got to play the round for $100 through GolfNow as a single.
Unorganized
Didn’t get a caddie until the 4th hole.
Super unorganized today. I have played numerous times here before and it was the worst I have experienced. Caddie was unfriendly and didn’t provide any decent reads or feedback.
I have had caddies here before and they have been great. Didn’t enjoy the round today. Will try again but today was a let down
This course is over-rated - not recommended
This is the third time in two years we have played this course. Each time the course layout has been different. The first and second time various portions of the course were under construction in preparation for the Mexico Open, and the golf experience was poor. We returned this year expecting these issues to be resolved, only to find many of the same issues.
- the course layout has been altered once again
- it was cart path only for 17 of 18 holes (one hole had to be crossed to continue play)
- practically all fairways and greens had been sanded, affecting play
- there was no advance information as to course condition
- despite reservations last year and this that should have enabled us to play all 27 holes, there are still 2 holes we have yet to play
- shuttle service to get out to the course, and then back to the parking area, was inadequate and cumbersome
- there was no area at the main clubhouse for food and beverage while we waited for our tee time
On a positive note, we had a great caddy!
This is a course that is still under development. It should not be presenting itself as anything else. While we paid a special rate, it certainly should not be charging full green fees at any time, and course management should be honest about the condition and layout in advance of booking. Further, if it is going to cater to golfers from outside the facility, it needs to sharpen up it's process to move people from parking area to clubhouse and return. On the day we played, it was an hour in one direction and almost that on return.
Golf courses in general in Puerto Vallarta area are overpriced Vidanta is a rip-off.
