Only 5 holes
Only 5 holes were available today and everyone was repeating the same holes. This was not an enjoyable golf experience
Great Course in an Unbelievable Community
Canal shores is highly supported by the local community. Great programs surround Canal Shores, so if you haven't been, I highly recommend playing here or getting involved with them and the community.
VERY Excited to see the end results of the current restoration/renovation project
Perfect neighborhood course to walk
First impression was phenomenal - we were immediately greeted by name and promptly handed a parking pass for our vehicle (to ensure it wasn’t forgotten, which I appreciated!). I’m sorry I forgot her name, but the woman working was welcoming and answered questions we didn’t know to ask. And glad we walked - it’s not very spread out and was an easy/flat course to walk.
The course is undergoing improvements, so hole order is a bit wonky but it makes total sense as you play. If I lived nearby, it’d be hard not to pop in for a quick 9 all the time. I’m a beginner golfer so I appreciated a manageable challenge.
Temporarily shortened course
While I normally enjoy playing this course, it is currently under construction and as of 7/21/23 only had 11 holes open for play. A few weeks prior there were 14 holes open for play. The course hasn't been super forthcoming about how many holes are open. Pace of play can be extremely slow, especially when kids summer camp is in session.
Canal Shores
Only 11 holes were open for play, but the 1st 2 holes were closed for kids camp. So, only 9 holes were open for play. When we finished, we could have gone back and played the first two holes, but we had to wait for others starting their rounds. They need to do a better job of communicating the kids camp on their website.
Canal Shores
Fun course but had four holes closed off for a undisclosed time. Good practice to call the golf shop before you book your times.
Getting Better
This is my home course, and I’ve played it many times. Needs a marshal to keep up pace of play and to keep good-offs from cutting in or skipping holes. Happened to us us on the last three holes..
Abbreviated Canal Shores In Pretty Good Playing Condition
The fairways tees and greens play well in general and are well manicured. The staff are great hosts and the abbreviated course is fun to play even with course construction going on.
Grandson Outing
Canal Shores is a very appropriate course for golf beginners. It is not very long and easily walkable. My only real complaint relates to the number of times people simply walked onto the course in front of us and started playing. A twosome cut in front of us because they did not want to wait to tee off on #1. Someone else cut in front on the 12th hole. On #14, a twosome jumped in front and it was actually someone getting a lesson. They did it again 2 holes later.
Afternoon with grandsons
Canal Shores is a great place for a fun round of golf with your kids or grandkids. It is very tight, so accuracy is a must. If you are new to the game, as my grandsons are, it is an excellent place to learn. There are only a few holes over 300 yards and most are 160 or less. Great place to learn that accuracy is more important than distance.
