Absolutely Wonderful!
I have been playing Dunmaglas since 1992. Although my skills have diminished significantly, I always look forward to my trip to Petoskey, Michigan and several rounds at Dunmaglas. This course was a challenge for me as a single digit player, but the beauty always draws me back as a 20 handicapper. I would describe the course as rustic. The course design allows you to feel like you are the only foursome on the course... pace of play is usually in your hands.
The staff at Dunmaglas is incredibly friendly and accommodating. If you get a chance to be served by Dale you will appreciate his style and sincerity for you to enjoy your experience!
From the tips, it is all you can handle!
Worth the drive!!!
Nice Course
Like most of the layout. A couple of holes had sharp doglegs and had no idea what laid ahead. This course has great views of the Charlevoix area. Greens were hard to read. Gentle breaks you can not pick up looking. But they putted very good. Fairways and tees were in top notch condition. I would go back and play this course.
Review
Good course with some good views of Lake Michigan. No houses on course
Pretty good value
Solid course with great views. Course was in decent shape. This is a 50 dollar course not a 100 dollar course ( which is the regular rate ). Didn't see another golfer the whole time in the course so we were a little confused when we only saw the beer cart twice during the round. Overall pretty good experience and I would play again.
Hidden gem
cool course, gets bad rep for being tough, but it is very fair. Lots of elevation and smallish greens. Staff is OUTSANDING. They took care of us through the whole round.
Pretty but difficult
This was our first time playing this course so we didn't know what to expect. The views were fantastic. The course was a little dry but otherwise in good shape. Greens were very slow and took some getting used to. I would not recommend this course to anyone who has difficulty walking distances and up and down hills. Many of the green areas have long up hill climbs to reach the green. Very challenging course.
Review
We really like this course ... Lots of variation in each hole .
Old style course
Very enjoyable layout. Good challenges off the tee. Greens in good shape. Fairways could have been better. Glad we did not pay the full price.
Great views
Upon pulling in parking lot and seeing clubhouse, I didn't think this was a $99/round golf course. The clubhouse/driving range were not to the scale of the course itself. The t boxes weren't in great shape, but the rest of the experience was great. Very pretty views, greens and fairways in good/great shape.
A Brute
Played with a group of 16 for a three day weekend. Most in the group agreed this was our least favorite course for several reasons. It is extremely difficult as the trees have overgrown the fairways over the years. The course plays very long and is in so-so condition at best, especially the greens. It is just no fun when you spend all day looking for your ball. Better and less expensive options everywhere around Petoskey/Charlevoix.
Scenic and Playable
Very nice course with very little traffic on the weekdays. Fairways somewhat open. Be careful though, some great drives will get lost if hit "over the hill". Challenging course, can be a long day for beginners but a great course for views and that "Up North" feel.
Awesome views
The course is challenging, but fair. Many great views with elevation changes to match. Great course and value
just OK
Greens and tee boxes were not in the greatest shape!
A gem!
Beautiful course, in great shape. Especially enjoyed the different elevations. Fun to play!
Epic
What a gem in the woods of northern michigan. Great views and elevation changes. The greens provide a good test for even the craftiest of putters.
Beautiful challenging course
Challenging course with spectacular views. Great condition.
Dunmaglas - tricked-up and fungus on greens
This course is too tricked up and the greens had fungus damage all over.
Dunmaglas
Had a 9AM tee time, got here early and we were allowed out. Young man in the pros shop was very nice. It is a wonderful golf course layout, but could use an influx of cash for maintenance and upkeep. As another reviewer stated, you basically have gravel in the bunkers instead of sand. The course was a bit shaggy and had a lot of grass clippings in the fairways.. Some weeds and clover are invading the roughs, greens respectable. For a similar price Little Travers Bay was heads and shoulders above this course. There were very few people on the course and only a few car when we left the facility. I would play it again, but at a reduced price.
Challenging, but fun!
True "Up-North" experience! Generous fairways, interesting holes, green complexes very difficult. We will be back.
Driving Range didn't match the course. It is just adequate.
Didn't try any food.
NM
need real sand in the traps to improve this nice course
