About Wisp Resort

The Wisp Resort’s 172 acres of ski terrain are heaven for winter-sports enthusiasts, but this resort offers so much more year-round. It is an outdoor playground for all ages thanks to Deep Creek Lake and an endless array of mountainous adventures: canopy tours, segways, mountain biking, a mountain coaster, disc golf, 36 holes of regular golf, gem mining, pontoon boat tours, whitewater rafting and flatwater kayaking. The Fantasy Valley and Lodestone golf courses both boast soaring scenery. Lodestone, designed by Hale Irwin, features some of the largest greens on the East Coast.

Mountain of Fun

Fantastic golf course located high above the lake. Great views, Very large rolling greens. Ball position a must on every shot to the flag. Wide fairways with a few traps and rock formations to watch out for. Nice soft playable sand. Very friendly staff. The course had just received a lot of rain. The course drained well but still cart path only on this round. The greens were in excellent shape. Nice to see golfers fixing their ball marks. I would highly recommend this golf course to all.

Some challenges

This course has some challenging holes, with a lot of risk reward shots. Remember playing at altitude your ball is going to travel farther, so club less sometimes.

Amazing Course

I played on 7/6/13 by myself and there was no one on the course. This is one of my favorite courses I have played anywhere in the Mid-Atlantic. What a hidden gem. The course was in great condition and I played my round in about 3.5 hours. I played the twilight rate at around 3PM so it was not full price although I would have been perfectly fine paying the full price to play here.

The manager/pro told me that this course was intended to be a private course but because of the economy, was turned public. The views from some of the holes are the most beautiful you will see anywhere thanks to it being at the top of a mountain. Unfortunately, I live in Baltimore so I do not have the ability to play here often, otherwise, I would play here as much as possible.

Great Deal

The course was as challenging as it was beautiful. It was in great shape for this early in the season. Would love to play it again when the greens are healed over. Staff was very friendly and accommodating.

Great, challenging layout that won't disappoint!

There are a couple minor issues that keep this from being rated a five star course. The pro shop leaves a lot to be desired, there is no practice area to speak of, and the green fee is a little pricey when compared to other high end courses in the area. Having said that, the layout and views from atop the mountain are priceless and nearly justify the cost to play. The course is mostly tree lined, but there is enough room that errant shots can be recovered. The greens are very undulated with both subtle and not do subtle breaks. But it allows you to be creative with approach shots and chips shots around the green as you can utilize the slopes to feed the ball to the hole. For my money, this course is the most fun you will have playing in Western Maryland. A must play if you are making the trip to Deep Creek this summer.
