Extremely slow play, course doesn't mange pace of play at all

It rained earlier in the day and the course pushed back tee times and over-saturated course with players and never managed the pace of play and never told us it was backed up. Took 5 hours to play 13 holes and got dark. the last 5 holes we had three groups waiting to tee off every time. I called GolfNow and asked for a refund or partial refund and they offered a $10 coupon. Totaly ridiculous....Don't book here unless you want to only play 13 holes in 5 hours and pay for 18.

Wow! It took awhile for this to sink in, but, relying on your information, someone ahead of you took 6.9 hours to play their round. Just, Wow!

Anyone know how you can size up a group when they check in, and tell that they are going to take 6 hours? & refuse to change when instructed?

Really. Sorry I tired to help. You deserve your rant. Why not dispute the credit card charge?

Gosh, just trying to be helpful. No need to chew me out. I was just saying what I would do, or have done in my 60 years of playing golf.

What I hear you saying is the guy in the Pro Shop should not have taken your money because he should have surmised that the course was busy. If he would have done that, told you they were busy, would you have left?

(PS: &, in my 60 golfing years, I've never known any course any where, to do that, but . . .&, you do understand that it is golfers ahead of you who created your mess?)

Marshals need to have real power, and slow groups need to be dealt with, even to the point of being asked to leave if they find they've bitten off more than they can chew. They have a thankless job. Damned if they do and damned if they don't.

& golf courses need to have their marshals' backs, so when those slow groups whine about the marshal , , , , ,

Reply to Wanderer673539. First off don't act like you know anything about the day I played unless you where there. I've played golf for 40+ years and understand pace of play and when course is not managed. When it got dark we drove in and there were 7 groups (foursomes) backed-up on the remaining 5 holes in front of us, there was also 2 twosomes that drove in in-front of us. Also, there was a marshal driving around earlier in the day but he wasn't stopping to talk with anyone because he knew there where to many people on the course. All they had to do in the pro shop a 3:00 when I checked in is say we are really backed up. Nope they only wanted the green fees and knew it was a total mess on the course.

Pace is normally decent there, as the other reviews can attest. Obviously you got behind some golfers who made it a bad experience for everyone behind them. At what point did you call the clubhouse, at the phone number on the scorecard? Did you think about driving forward, past the slow group?

The course was better than our game

2 above average senior golfers were humbled from the Silver tees. A full 5 star experience which better golfers would appreciate even more. My advice on tee selection is to only bite off as much as you can chew. It’s a first class experience.

Challenging course

This is a tough course but lots of fun. It was exactly as described. We did not encounter any surprises regarding conditions, water available, customer service, equipment, etc. If ever in Branson again, we will play this course again.

Fantastic

Fantastic course. Amazing layout. Must play if you visit Branson. Played Buffalo Ridge Springs. Ozarck National and Payne’s Valley and this is just as enjoyable with 1/3 the price.

Something to Think About

If you can't hit a 50-yard-wide target at 200 Yards, maybe you'd be better off with a few bags of balls at the range. This course is not one to learn how to play golf on, and the group behind you would appreciate you not looking in the woods after every shot.

The ladies hit the ball 100 yards at a time, and get around the course in three hours, so why do you big, husky guys, with your wannabe PGA Tour-style golf habits take five hours?

Gorgeous course Disappointing experience

Did not realize this was no longer Payne Stewart Golf Club and was sad my buddy (first time at the course) didn’t get to see the Payne memorabilia. The course is still incredible. Really tough, but gorgeous. The pace of play on the back nine was what nightmares are made of. Took almost two hours to play the final 5 holes. And they charge a $129 green fee and make you buy bags of range balls. So dumb. Charge $139 and give me the range balls. Nickel and dimming patrons at that level green fee seems short sided.

Very beautiful hilly & wooded course

Extremely pretty course with some elevated tees, rolling scenery and mansions scattered along the sides. All the staff were uniformly friendly. Challenging but still very accessible to a poor golfer (me). Would love to play again some day.

Branson Hills GC - Picturesque, Penal Ozarks Club Deserves Recognition in Big Cedar Shadow

The Good: Branson Hills GC is a beautiful, demanding design from Chuck Smith & former PGA player & commentator Bobby Clampett. Surprising elevation changes with as picturesque of views as you’ll find in the Midwest, particularly with the rock cropping and water features. One of the tougher courses that I played on my annual golf trip, it is one of the more difficult approach shot tracks out there. Starts off with a jaw-dropping downhill Par-4 opener, superb Par 5’s and nice collection of Par-3’s. Excellent conditions and large, undulating greens that putt true. Nice clubhouse with full restaurant and bar, as well as amenities that include several on-site restroom areas and GPS on carts. Nice driving range and good practice facilities. Decent value, especially compared to the overpriced Big Cedar courses.

The Bad: The greens, while they putt really true, didn’t hold well at all during our round. Can be considered too demanding of a golf course for high handicappers as most holes don’t have any place to bail. The driving range was awkwardly placed far from the first tee. The staff at the restaurant and the golf shop were working really hard, but weren’t overly friendly.

The Verdict: Branson Hills is a Top 5 public golf course in Missouri that I’ve played and a great addition to a Big Cedar trip. Some holes seemed to be hard for the sake of being hard, but otherwise it’s a very enjoyable experience.

Best Hole: The long, downhill Par-5 5th hole is one of the most amazing holes you’ll find in Branson. Make sure to take a picture from behind the green!

The beautiful, downhill par 5 you're referring to is 8. Probably my favorite hole anywhere.
