Looking out on #2 Fairway Photo submitted by walt02554 on 08/25/2013
Local knowledge of the course will help
Tee: The can be long depending on the Tee Box.
Fairways: generously wide, however, some holes are need local knowledge of the course to get a better score.
Greens: are fast and undulating. to gimmes here. gotta be firm with your putt.
Always Pleased
This course is all about ball placement in the fairway. Its tough but beautiful all around course.
Well Maintained, Very Challenging Course
Wolfdancer is a well maintained course in the hills of Bastrop county at the Lost Pines Resort. The greens were exceptionally fast, felt like US Open conditions. This is NOT a beginner or high handicap course. I skipped the 2nd hole because of 2 hackers that lacked the golf etiquette of knowing when to let someone “play through”. Fortunately the course was not crowded on a Monday afternoon, and when I finished hole 18, the starter not only agreed to let me go play the 2nd hole, but let me to play the first hole again as well. Very friendly staff. Course is tough with rolling hills, deep rough and fast greens. If you like a challenge, play Wolfdancer.
Practice facility lacking in cleanup items prior to tee off. Very uncommon for a “top rated” facility. No club cleaners or towels or club racks on practice facility. Tee boxes “ beat up” ... and most graduated tee markers missing....! 4 tee boxes to maybe 2 or 3 or 4 you guess when you get to the box. Come on Wolfdancer, if you are going to charge premium basics are required.
Wolfie!
My fav in town. With that said..price is too high right now. For the money I expect the bunkers to be top notch and I expect a good Marshall to keep play moving. The course is so pristine so to see such horrible bunkers makes no sense. As one the most expensive courses in the Austin area (public) the bunkers are unacceptable for the price. No Marshall on a busy Sunday. As a single I was stuck behind a 4 some with kids coming out of 3 carts. The 3 adults played several shots a piece with no consideration for how long they took. The kids came out randomly to hit balls too further delaying play. Never kind enough to let me through after waiting behind them for 4 holes each and every single shot. Each shot was a 10-15 mins wait as they could care less that I was behind them. At one point, one of the guys at a tee box said he would let me through but because there was a group in front of them he wouldn’t let us through. But by the following hole the group in front of them was a hole ahead! Been playing for 30 years and never had a group play so slow without an ounce of consideration. Wolfie for as much as y’all charge I expect a Marshall. Love you guys but you’re not cheap. No wiggle room for loss of value .
Best place around
Always friendly staff, some times it’s slow but for the most part it’s not that busy in the afternoon. Love this place will always go back!!
Wolfdancer in 105 degrees...
Great course; VERY beautiful; the bar was closed though...overpriced, but really a beautiful course
Best Tough Course in Town
It’s gorgeous, But akin to that “fem fatale”, just when you think you’re in, heart break awaits. Fair for sure. Well kept. I don’t want to say too many great things, then I’ll NEVER get a tee time. It’s a must play. A bit pricey, but you won’t regret the treat to yourselves.
Tough, but a great course
Handicap 14-18
It's a pretty difficult course, some tight fairways and big breaks on the greens. It's beautiful and in excellent condition.
Pace of Play
First I would like to say this course looks great. It has just rained and the fairways were niceI and the greens were in pretty good shape. On the other hand, I know it is a resort style golf course, but the pace of play was not pleasant. The group in front of my group were not keeping up and there was no Marshall to help move them along. If you book a late afternoon tee time you will be there for a while.
Back open and poa problems are gone
Wolfdancer was one of the local Austin-area courses most affected by COVID-19. Because of its association with the Hyatt Regency Hotel, they closed thru June 1 while other area courses had a busy May. The closure however appears to have allowed them to clean up some of the poa outbreaks they've had around some greens. The conditions were about as good as I've seen it there, save for some neglected traps. Greens rolled really nicely and fairways were plush. You could take your own cart if you wanted and pace was good despite being pretty busy. Appreciated the bottles of water and the water jugs had cold water as well, which was surprising. Wolfdancer is always a great place to measure your game in the Austin area.
Accessible Golden Gem
Just a beautiful course and always a pleasure to play. Was in the best shape I have seen it and incredibly lush and pure fairways. Not overly crowded and just a beauty set in the hills. Highly recommend if you haven’t made the trip out from Austin.
