Dramatic improvement compared to last year

Last year’s review was of disappointment in the course conditions. This year an almost 180 degree of change for the best! The fairways were green and lush. The greens were smooth and fast. Last year, poa annua infiltration ruined the round and especially for #8 where it would knock your putts off-line. This year, although present, it was cut at the same height as the rest of the green. Smooth. Lost Pines is now the name of the course and the new holes for the back nine are spectacular - you would not have known they were recent additions if you had not played Wolfdancer in previous years. The Player Ambassador was a gentleman who had a way of letting you know that cart path only means cart path only - without being haughty or mean. That is an art few master in making all golfers feel wanted - he has it! I thoroughly enjoyed my round.

Windy weather
Used cart

No need for carts on path for four holes....especially at the high prices.

The price value for this course is too high. We got our price from “golf now” and it made the price somewhat better, but no ealry times available. The price was too high to have four holes cart path only for no reason. This made play slow and uncomfortable. Play was so slow we had to skip a hole to get home on time after 41/2 hour of playing.

This course is extremely challenging for women. My husband (6 handicap) moved from the white tees to the green because of the difficulty. I play from the red tees (22 handicap)....so no solution for me.

My husband felt #9 green was poorly designed ....very hard to get approach shot to hold the green.

Rough Around the Edges

I’ve played here a number of times and have always really enjoyed the course and the experience. For some reason, yesterday left a lot to be desired. Nobody greeted us as we drove up, no bag drop visible, and nobody met me at my vehicle to assist with my clubs. I carried them to the shop to check in, then loaded them by myself, and headed to the range, no big deal. What was most disappointing was the course conditions, and not because of the season or the elements. Greens were slow with plenty of poa, surrounds were very rough- loose soil, poa/weeds, etc. We also had a number of pin placements that were questionable at best. On a positive, the four new holes were very well done, and an upgrade over the previous four holes.

We’ll be back for sure, but we’ll likely wait a few months in hopes that conditions improve and return to what’s expected for the price, and the previous standard.

Take with a gain of salt

This was my first time playing here and before you read further this round cost me $0.00 to play because I had a large credit for use with a hot deal and found a $89.00 hot deal tee time for Monday @ 11:50am.

That being said I enjoyed the long drive out from N. Austin and found everything very easily. Check-in was smooth, and the staff I met were as friendly as can be. Being that it was my first time there and to a ‘nicer’ course, I was given the rundown and enjoyed the nicer amenities that were provided.

I was paired up with a duo but was invited to play ahead of them, the pace of play was great for my tee time and I had full run of the place. I was told that this place plays long and to go down a tee box compared to what you’re used to, tho I found playing whites to be about the right (my normal). The course was in great condition for winter golf and the greens are as good if not better than anywhere I’ve seen recently. Very firm and fast. The course layout was very challenging but rewarding if you played your game well, I absolutely loved my 4.25hr round and took my time to take it all in as no one was behind me. I do have to add, the players I ran into here were much less friendly than anywhere I’ve been in my last 50+ rounds, was disappointing but not unexpected with the price point.

I’d absolutely love to play here again, if I found a great deal again I’d be all over it! Personally, I wouldn’t buy a round at full price unless for a special outing or a treat to myself. Hope this helps your choice.

Overpriced course, not worth the $$$$$

Course in good shape but not worth the price and the drive from Austin. Lots of other courses you can play in Austin for way cheaper and in the same or better shape (Star Ranch). Only reason i played here was a cheap hotdeal and booked at the last minute but this place is way overpriced.

Great secluded course

The only negative thing was that they have that crab grass on the collars that all courses seem to have right now. I thought a course of that caliber would have sprayed and killed it. Food shack was closed so couldn't truly rate it.

Play this course

If you don't want to drive over an hour from Cedar Creek to play a round, this is the best choice in Bastrop. Yes, it will cost you, but it is a well maintained, well run facility. The greens, fairways, and amenities are on par with most resort courses in the $125 - $195 range. The only reason to not ay this track is if you can't afford it.

I play only private courses in my home state of FL and this is a course I would come back to play again.

Great course, avg shape for turf, poor bunkers

Have played course 10-12 times over the years. Love the layout, condition was suspect on tee boxes and traps were not good. Fairways were very good, greens were mostly good.
