Solid Austin course w/ some of the best greens in Austin
This is an all around solid course with a mix of holes. If you get in under $60, it's likely worth it. While the course clearly needs some fixes (clearly having trouble figuring out how to get grass to grow on the more heavily trafficed parts of the course, it is overall very well manicured. The first couple times I've out there, I've though the greens rolled pure and were nice and quick. The last time I played, it was clear the greens were suffering in the Austin heat and didn't have much grass on them. Also, it's worth noting that the #1 and #2 handicap holes are such because they are likely way too long. Both are over 450 yards, uphill into the predominant wind. Overall a solid course - likely more fun played a set of tees ahead of where you'd normally play.
Very good public course
This course is always one of the more expensive public courses in Austin, but after playing it this past weekend, it seems as if they are putting the money to good use. Staff was very friendly, great food and drinks, and the course was very good. For being the middle of August in Texas, the course was in very good shape. Greens were brown in color, but were actually rolling very fast.
It is no country club course, but I'd say Falcon Head is definitely one of the best public courses in Austin.
Course is tough right now!
The fairways are in great shape... The greens are running super fast and most have severe burn spots that really made it tough to enjoy. The "signature" hole, looked awful! Nothing like hitting a perfect iron onto the green, only to find you have to putt thru a bunker for a birdie. This wasnt the only hole like this. I would say this is the worst I've seen the course in a long time. Also, this is not really their fault but having the no.9 fairway so close to the driving range, really is disappointing when you drive up and there are 15 range balls some yellow some white scattered around the fairway, just does not give a good vibe to players.
The staff was great!
Excellent ! I would love to play again maybe with a discount
Immaculate course, challenging and rewarding.
It's been several years since I last played Falconhead. Due to the great deal on GolfNow, I went out and played this last Sunday. First, the staff there was all very friendly and helpful. There were marshals throughout the course, and all of them were very kind and upbeat. Second, the course itself was in fantastic condition. It can be a challenge to keep a course very well maintained in the Central Texas heat, but the staff did a great job. Sure there were some spots on greens that were getting brown, but all the greens rolled pure and true. The fairways and the rough were excellent, and all in all, everything was top notch.
The course itself is challenging and long, depending on what tees you play. However, I found that it was also quite forgiving if you missed in the right spots.
I will definitely be back to play this course as often as possible. It was a superb golf experience through and through.
The course needs water
They are going to lose some teeboxes and greens if they are not careful.
Challenging but Fair. Has unique and diverse features
Greens are great and run true. Staff is quite able and ready to
answer questions. Very friendly patrons as well. I play in a nine hole league that is quite a lot of fun and is great for meeting other players. Will continue to play here as much as I can
Excellent conditon, a must play.
Falconhead is suitable for all level of players, it has up to 6 sets of tees, with course length from 5170 to 7181 yards. It is a PGA Signature course suitable for a PGA tournament. It has several high risk/high rewards holes and challenges not only your mind but your physical skills.
Great conditions and courteous staff
Played 06/09 in 3.5 hours. Course was in great shape especially
the fairways. Greens were rolling very well. Really enjoy
playing here. Excellent value and always challenging.
Great shape!
My buddy and i had a great afternoon at FH. We found the fairways and general landscaping feautures to be immaculate. We were especially surprised at how healthy and lush the fairways were. Next, the greens were probably rolling around 13 which blew our minds. Putts were reacting just as they would on a tournament course. If you missed the correct side of the green, your ball would roll and roll and roll down to the fringe. I personally like these sorts of greens. To cap off the day my friend knocked in a hole in one on the signature par three. The nines have been reverse now as well which we felt was a nice touch. I would highly recommend this course in its current condition to anyone.
Great layout!
Love this course and the layout! Greens are still a little long but in a week or so this course will be in pristine shape.
Always one of my favs!
I've been able to play at Falconhead a few times now and it has always been in tip top shape. It truly gives you the feel of playing on a tour course. It's a super fun course that has some challenging holes to keep you on your toes. I would highly recommend this course to anybody who enjoys golf and is looking for a great course to play.
Very poor customer service for the price point
Simply put, the customer service at Falconhead does not match what you would expect at this price point. Not even close. If you can get on for less than $50 then I would say go ahead and give it a shot because there are some interesting holes. Anything over $50 just isn't worth it in my opinion. Our group paid $90 and we were treated poorly pretty much from the time that we stepped onto the property. The starter chewed us out on the first tee before we had even started the round and was completely unprofessional. Honestly, it was one of those "wait, is this guy actually being serious?" types of moments. Just unacceptable. I was never once given the impression that their employees understood and/or appreciated that their guests are who drive their business. After several incidents in as many rounds, I'm done with this course until there is a change in management.
Always enjoy playing Falconhead
The course is well designed and maintained. I always enjoy my round there and look forward to playing there again.
Nice course with some challenging holes.
The course has a great layout. Really enjoyed the elevation changes. The greens were in great shape.
The Course is in Great Shape
The golf experience went great. The starters were well receptive to myself being a single and allowed me to head off on the back nine first to allow me continuous play. This allowed continuous play in good time with minimal waiting.
One of Austin's best
Except for a few greens that have some roughness in spots, the course is in fabulous condition, lush fairways, beautiful vistas and views, elegant surroundings, just a great course that keeps you coming back for more. Playable but very challenging from the tips, still challenging forward but easier. Highly recommend this course especially when you can get such a great deal off GolfNow.
Great, challenging track, with an exceptional staff.
A challenging track, so sometimes that can slow things down a little. Greens are slow, but true. Staff is always top notch- courteous and friendly from check in, to the rangers.
Course nice but not worth the time
We teed off at 2:15 yesterday and didn't walk off the course until 7:15. The marshals have no idea how to manage pace of play. There were two groups in front of us and no one beyond them. They wouldn't let us play through and the marshal did nothing when we said something to him about it. Some of the greens could use some work but otherwise the course was in good shape. I just can't get away from the pace of play. When three groups are on a hole and one is waiting to tee off behind the guys on the tee box something is wrong. This is my third round at Falcon Head and my last. Five hours is unacceptable. My first two rounds were in the 4 to 4 1/2 hour range. So as far as I know this course plays extra slow. Good luck trying to find a rhythm.
well designed TX hill country course
A well designed Texas Hill Country course. It was in good condition for late March. I highly recommend.
