About Sonesta Bee Cave
The Sonesta Bee Cave is located 20 minutes west off Austin off Highway 71 in the Hill Country Galleria, home to a collection of shops, bars and restaurants. There is no golf course onsite but there is shuttle service to the nearby Lakeway golf courses, including public Falconhead Golf Club, and the hotel does have some limited access to the private courses at the Clubs of Lakeway. The Sonesta Bee Cave features a large, outdoor courtyard pool, 10,000 square feet of meeting space and a 5,300 square foot ballroom. Lake Travis is minutes away where a marina can be accessed, and world-famous Hamilton Pool is also a short drive away. A highlight of the Sonesta Bee Cave is not only the galleria shops and restaurants but the hotel's own rooftop Meridian 98, which features cocktails and specialty plates in a lively setting that hosts live music.Facts

Fun and approachable Hill Country golf
Visited over Christmas break and had ideal conditions. A couple holes appeared to be roughed up from weather damage (bare spots on fairway and green) but overall the course was in great shape for the winter. Layout was pretty straightforward with minimal hazards to contend with. Would definitely play it again on my next visit to Austin.

Nice course but...
Felt like I was playing a very hilly hybrid links course.
I couldn't adjust to the speed of the greens because some felt faster than others. I left a handful of birdie putts short all day.
The party 4s are long, curvy, hilly and challenging. It was super windy the day I played so it made it even tougher to hit the fairway.
I might play again but to me this course doesn't really interest me in playing here often.

Management Problems
Played Falconhead. Originally I booked a tee time on golf now, then I wanted to add a 3rd to our tee time and spoke to one of their representatives and they moved my tee time one tee time back. I cancelled the original tee time. We get to the club house and they said the rep didn’t cancel the first one, and that we owed them for 5 tee times. 2 on the original booking on golf now, 3 for when I called on the phone. Then on the practice range, the starter asked us to move up one tee slot and we said fine. They won’t reimburse us for it, since it’s policy…. I will never play there again. The black lead instructor was a complete Jerk. He couldn’t even look at me in the eyes.
Aside from that, the round took us 5 hours and 15 minutes. There hasn’t been a gold tee in 8 months. I have played this course probably 15 times in my life. I will never ever ever play there again. We had a member golfing with us who’s said the management has sucked for a long time and told me to write a review

Getting Run Down
Fairways and greens OK. Sandtraps look like they have never been raked. Not by the course or bu players. Bathrooms not serviced and in disrepair. A water leak in one making the floor wet. A screen kicked in in another. The paper towels missing in the bathroom by the club house. None of the bathrooms clean.
This used to be a favorite course to me. It now resembles a low class municipal course. Certainly not worth the current rates charged, even when there is a discount offered.

Nice condition for “winter” golf
Really enjoyed the layout. Well-placed trees forced me to make a few more low punch shots than I wanted. Greens and bunkers were in good shape. Cordial staff. I would love to play it again.

Over seeded (good and bad)
The fairways are over seeded for winter (good). The tee boxes are over seeded for winter (good). The greens are over seeded for winter (rye=bad). The greens are so slow with the rye that they are almost unplayable. The staff are grumpy. There was a marshal on duty that I hadn't seen before and he was friendly and helpful which surprised me because I am used to crotchety old farts running things.

Good could have been better
The course around the greens was over watered and muddy as could be. So many of my chips where in muddy lies. Sad but true. Everything was spot on as usual .

Good overall but the marshall
Got the very first tee time of the day. 2 guys 2 girls, guys walking. After the first 9th, a guy from a group of 3 behind us asked to pass us by himself so we let him. After a while Marshall approaches us saying that there shouldn't be a 4 hole gap in between players and asked us to pick up the pace. Where is the common sense here? There is NO WAY we can catch up to a single with 4 people, let alone the guy seemed pretty good as well. I know folks at falconhead emphasize pace of play a lot but that is nonsense.
