Sonesta Bee Cave
About Sonesta Bee Cave
The Sonesta Bee Cave is located 20 minutes west off Austin off Highway 71 in the Hill Country Galleria, home to a collection of shops, bars and restaurants. There is no golf course onsite but there is shuttle service to the nearby Lakeway golf courses, including public Falconhead Golf Club, and the hotel does have some limited access to the private courses at the Clubs of Lakeway. The Sonesta Bee Cave features a large, outdoor courtyard pool, 10,000 square feet of meeting space and a 5,300 square foot ballroom. Lake Travis is minutes away where a marina can be accessed, and world-famous Hamilton Pool is also a short drive away. A highlight of the Sonesta Bee Cave is not only the galleria shops and restaurants but the hotel's own rooftop Meridian 98, which features cocktails and specialty plates in a lively setting that hosts live music.Facts

What a Start
Falconhead is a beautiful challenging course that is typically a joy to play. The only complaint I've ever had is maybe an over attentive marshal or two. It's more than understandable during this time that everything is not functioning perfectly, but it was not worth it in the long run and I would not recommend this course right now.
The starter was blatantly rude, disrespectful, and made a simple process stressful to the point of not wanting to play. He basically berated my invited playing partner for not knowing his exact tee time after he (the starter) had forgotten who we were. While waiting for our 4th, he constantly asked and condemned us for where he was when it wasn't even our designated time to tee off yet.
At this time the course has restrictions in place understandably to make it safe to play. We found out on the first tee box that there is no markers indicating where to tee off. Not a big deal, I really don't know how this makes everything safer and it would have been good to know so we could decide which one of the 7 tee boxes we'd use and try to locate each hole. After finally finding some sort of comfort and rhythm in the round a marshal approached us on the course asking why we weren't adhering to the cart path only rules. For one we were not told much of anything besides that we were an inconvenience by the starter. And two every group around us was all over the place. And three everything was dry with no indication that there was a need. We of course began following the cart path only rules (we would have walked our round if we knew before hand it was cart path only).
We tried to carry on and enjoy our round and brush these inconvenient happenings off. We found our group one of the few adhering to the cart path only rules as probably no one knew. We were hit into on multiple occasions as the group behind us was not and was waiting on us. We never saw the marshal again after the 5th hole.
The conditions were average at best as the greens were overgrown, unkempt, and unrolled. It will be awhile before I try Falconhead again, which is a shame because it is a great track.
Good Course
Good course. But overpriced. I play it once in awhile, on a golf Now Hot Deal, just as a change of pace.
Nice course
Course offers a diverse Hill Country layout. I appreciated a choice in multiple tee boxes; it was extremely windy today, so played from white tees. Lots of challenging ups and downs. Fairways in good shape, although not as plush as I would have hoped. Greens were also in good shape, rolled well, with minimal undulation - all in all, fair. As an aside, driving range and practice area was very good. I look forward to playing there again.
Excellent course
Great course from tee to green. For having the issues we are facing today, this is an excellent golf course. The staff is very helpful and accommodating. Can’t wait to play it again!
Would recommend this course to everyone.
Lady Golfer
Had a great time. Hard course but I keep challenging myself by going back again and again. Some of the bunkers definitely need more sand but overall course is in good shape considering it's only March. Clubhouse staff are great, always friendly and professional. Good price on Golf Now for a weekday. Love using Golf Now for deals.
Great layout..average conditions and staff
Visiting Austin and played this course based on reviews. Course conditions are equivalent to any muni. My wife and I had to carry our own bags in even though there were 3 old guys as staff members. They basically just looked at us carry the bags. After the round, we had to clean and carry our own clubs. The layout was great. Homes are way too close to course. Greens were bumpy.
Terrific Winter conditions.
Very good shape...greens in awesome condition. Pace good.
BEST Greens!
The best greens I have played on in TX.
Tee boxes were really tore up.
Overall, this course is a good/challenging layout. I would recommend it at $60 to $70, but I would look to others if you have to pay the full rack rate.
Super nice!
Great spot for a weekday round. Pace is great. Everything very nice and great value. Pace slows down to a trickle on the weekends so go prepared if you play then.
Great Day of Golf
Okay, I wrote after a Sunday debacle of overbooking, and slow play, that the course was not that enjoyable. I mentioned I would try to go during the week. Well that is a BIG difference as we all know. Perfect day of weather, and the course had numerous groups I could see, but I never waited. I thoroughly enjoy this course and staff. I would recommend giving it a try. The greens were in great condition for this time of year, Some landing areas in the fairway were a bit roughed up, mainly due to players not filling divots with the provided sand. Why is that? Just lazy? Thanks to those who take the time to repair their damage. Curses to those who don't..
still like the course
Pace of play was terrible. 5 hour round and gave up at 15 to head home. Better things to do than stand in line at tee boxes. Course apparently was overbooked, but it was a beautiful day and golfers were out of their shells... Still love the course and the staff, just burning 5 to 6 hours for a round won;t work. I'll book again, but try the weekdays.
HoHum
The greens were hairy, and incredibly inconsistent. Given the time of year I’ll concede maybe they aren’t cutting the greens every day, but $75-80 for a round...I’d expect the greens to be that kind of value. Play started really slow, we were looking at a 5 hour round on a day that was cold & windy. With a north wind all the difficult holes were compounded because they’re hard enough already. It’s a great course & I’ll play it again, but for a premium price I’m anticipating better.
