The Golf Courses of Lawsonia
About The Golf Courses of Lawsonia
The Golf Courses of Lawsonia in Green Lake is one of Wisconsin’s greatest golf treasures. The Links is a classic inland links of blind shots, mounding and incredible hilly topography to challenge and engage the best of players. The newer Woodlands course delivers a contrasting viewpoint with tons of trees and more elevation changes. It’s a high-caliber 1-2 punch. Lawsonia offers three homes for onsite accommodations: The Moreau House with a single and double suite; the five-bedroom Birches House and the three-bedroom Dawson House. Langford’s Pub is located inside the clubhouse, featuring a Friday Fish Fry and Saturday Prime Rib specials.Facts

Negatives out weighed positives
I would recommend playing this course for the course itself. The course had a couple areas that needed improvements, winter kill in a couple of greens, puddles in numerous sand traps, and the occasional mud spots; all of which could be avoided if you are a decent golfer. This course is set up to make your second shot the make or break of the hole. Tee shots are not very difficult but with the elevated greens and sand protecting basically every hole on the course you need to have a good second shot to succeed on this course.
There are two reasons I would try and avoid this course. The first is the pace of play. We were playing in a two-some so we knew we were going to catch up to some groups eventually but there were two open slots in front of us(30 minutes) and we had caught up to the group in from of us by hole 3. There was no one on the course to move people along or give suggestions if we could move to an open spot so we were not at every shot. A player assistant would have really helped considering the group in front of us, who knew we were right behind them, would spend 5 minutes at times looking for a ball they were clearly not going to find. The second is the decision of their food and beverage team. We saw the beverage service for the first time on hole 6, and curious I asked what took so long, she was the only one for both courses that day. Once we got to the turn I had asked why there was only one beverage cart for both courses, and she had stated they sent one of them home because there was not enough golfers to keep both of them. I cant speak for the woodlands course but there was a group on each hole, mostly 4-somes, in front of us. When we did see staff they were very professional and friendly but when you are golfing in 80+ degree weather and no cloud coverage you don't have your golfers rely on the water jugs set on every 4 holes.
I would play the course again but they definitely need need to sure up the decisions of the food and beverage management!
Great place to play!
Course was in excellent shape. Greens were closely mown, fast but not unfair. Would play the Woodlands more if we were closer to the course.
Lawsonia Links-Tough Greens
The greenskeeper must have been angry the morning we played. Some of the most severe pin placements I have seen on a course. We played as a threesome and played in about 4 hours. Great day, course in great shape.
very nice
was senic , pretty an very nice, would be a great course to recommend
Very good and challenging course
We have played the Woodlands course several times over the past years and always enjoy it. The course rewards you for staying in the fairway and even then trees can be in your way on the next shot. While I gave the course a very good rating there are a couple of cons.
The sand in the bunkers is not up to par for a course of this level. The sand was hard and hard fairly large pebbles in it.
It is nearly impossible to stop a putt on the 18th green without having it roll off the front of the green.
greta long challenge , fast greens
greta shape huge ondulating greens , can easily 3-4 put,
Great mix of hole types.
The course is in GREAT shape. The greens were super.
Awesome deal. Course in great shape for October.
I would consider myself very lucky to live only 15 minutes away from Lawsonia. Very affordable rates during the fall. Course in great shape and the staff was very friendly. Only compliant is that that the 18th green is way too fast, making for circus golf.
Great Course
Not too long, but pretty tight and very difficult and fast greens.
Love the greens and overall condition
Fairways were aerated, otherwise no complaints on the course. Played as a twosome and had no delays which allowed us to finish in less than 4 hrs. Just great!
Overated, overpriced
Staff appeared disinterested, cart lady was rude, course was in poor condition overall. Sand traps appeared to have had no attention for weeks. Greens were good. Nice layout. Too bad it is not kept in better condition. Course workers in the way several times. Painfully slow pace of play. No rangers to move along the folks that have no respect for others. Too many other nice courses around for me to waste my money on this one. Do yourself a favor and play somewhere else.
Every hole was beautiful and fun to play
There is not a more beautiful course in Wisconsin. Great day and great weather. Will be back!
fun, beautiful , nice true greens very unique cut out of the woods
very nice condition , great elevation changes lots of woods, bring plenty of golf balls big green very true.
Patchy fairways and rough
Staff- improved from my last visit to this course when I played the links course.
Tee boxes- Not level patchy grass
Fairways- patchy not well kept
Bunkers- no crisp edges, a lot of the bunkers are not raked
Greens- Beat up full of mud spots
Holes- There is a really nice elevated par 3 hole on this course which is there signature hole of the Woodland 18 holes and one of the better par 3 hole's I ever played. There is also another a nice split fairway hole with a shot over a ravine that sticks out to me.
Price I paid $55
Conclusion I would recommend trying this course but not for a price higher then $50 a person. The staff is hit or miss on this course, BUT DO NOT PAY FULL PRICE FOR THIS COURSE YOU WILL BE DISAPOINTED.
Expired soda, group hangout for staff,
Staff- Young non disciplined staff. Upon arrival to the course one of the employee that was working with the carts had his girlfriend sitting on his lap making out while on the clock. Upon entrance to the clubhouse my group waited at the counter while employees sat on a couch in the back room in clear view of myself and my group hanging out for about 5 minutes even after they observed us waiting at the counter. While on the course I was given an expired soda of about 6 months by the cart girl, I went into the club house at the turn to exchange the soda. This time I asked for a lemonade and noticed that even the lemonade was expired by 4 months, the bar tender then had to dig for a non expired drink and was not apologetic at all, which its not her fault but I think an apology was at least in order.
Course- In a little rough shape, (its the end of the year)
Fairways- were not the best kept
Greens- Must have been frozen that day which it was cold out but the greens could not hold a ball at all. Putts were rolling 20 feet bye on 7 foot putts.
Bunkers- were not raked and in rough shape
Carts- have a hand held range finder attached to the cart
I paid $60 and was disappointed
For other links course's I recommend Royal St. Patrick's over this course
Very scenic and challenging
The course was in great condition. Elevated greens makes for difficult approach shots. Could be very tough for the high handicap golfer(over 25). Extremely scenic and fun to play while looking over Green Lake.
The course very picturesque
I always enjoy playing the Golf Courses at Lawsonia
Lawsonia
For a deal I don't mind the long drive to play what I feel is the better of the 2 courses. The Links gets the ratings, but if you love carved out of the forest golf this is the track to play. Bent grass fairways and greens, real sand in the bunkers.
Woodlands is a marvelous track set in a special setting adjacent to Green Lake
Interesting course with each hole presenting a different challenge with sand , water and mature trees.
Course uses hilly terrain to create dramatic vistas and requires thoughtful approach shots.
Greens have challenging breaks but rolled smoothly.
A special place and a must play for serious golfers.
Great links experience
Greens were fast and wind was blowing 20 mph. Along with fairly firm conditions we had great links experience, except for temps in the 90s. Probably a difficult course for high handicappers. Not very forgiving if you miss fairways and greens. Cool course however not like many others you play
