AYRSHIRE, Scotland -- Originally known as Southern Gailes, Dundonald Links was designed by Kyle Phillips, who also did the acclaimed Kingsbarns near St. Andrews. The young course was then purchased by the owners of Loch Lomand Golf Club in 2003, and the name was changed.

Dundonald means "Fort Donald," and fortifications have been discovered nearby dated to between 500 and 200 BC. Another golf course actually existed on the site, however it was converted by the military during World War II.

Although the course is just 15 years old, it already has history of playing host to big tournaments. It has been the site of European PGA Tour qualifying, the Boys Amateur Championship as well the Scottish Open for both the women (2015-17) as well as the men.

The course, if you will, is a manufactured links course with some nice water views, plenty of pot bunkers and ever-present wind. With a good variety of long and short par 4s, it's a challenge from any tees.
