Palm Course - McCormick Ranch Photo submitted by tainge on 03/29/2013
Thanks
We played both backs. This course features holes that are more interesting than most of the courses we played in Scottsdale. Want to give a special shoutout to Carl in the Service Area who helped save our day when I left a wedge behind. Thank you Carl!
Not great
Most staff friendly but only seen Bev cart once on a 100+ degree day which left bad taste in my mouth (pardon the pun)
Some sort of Mould or rot in couple of greens
Fairway conditions not bad but not great
Club facilities were very nice
Paid $245 for two players which would have been alright if course conditions were better but not under current conditions
Good Time
This place was less than five minutes from our hotel. Pace was pretty good considering the time of year. Donated plenty of balls to the water. #15 is very challenging.
Front 9s only
Playing the front 9s only was not good, they put a rider in the cart with me that was a total stranger! Not good!!
Nice
Very hot today and lots of puddles which were probably necessary to keep the course green. Water in bunkers. The Marshalls were very helpful and friendly! 😎
3 PM Start
Overall, the course was good. Some of the greens were in poor shape. The Marshall made several appearances during our round, however, a group of 6 golfers (3 carts) out of nowhere, jumped ahead of us on 17 (we we're a twosome playing much faster) and we had to wait for them while they chipped and putted (they were not good). The Marshall saw them and just watched, while we decided to skip 17. The Marshall did nothing.
Great pace, good value, good shape
I was pleasantly surprised playing this course again after a few years away. Even with a crowded course of foursomes, we completed our round in just about 4:15; a friendly marshal kept things moving. Good course conditions for the end of winter, good sand in the traps, and the greens rolled fair at a reasonable slope. A good time was had by all, and I will be back. I’m not sure why they had us play the front nine on both courses (others played the back nines, so they were all in play,) but that meant I had to record the round as two 9-hole rounds. Not a big deal, just curious.
Horrible
For $180 I shouldn't have dirt greens, un cut boxes, and no rough. I got lots of pot holes on cart path. It was tge only consistency the course had was bad cart paths. Do not play here.
Unhappy
I booked this course to play with my father while we were in Scottsdale. We are casual golfers so figured we’d try an alternative to the uber-expensive courses in the area. 1.) As an initial matter we were sent out to play a different course than the one I had booked. 2.) I was frankly embarrassed to have brought my dad there. The course conditions were very poor and nothing like they had been advertised. Certain sections of the course were literally under water despite their not having been rain for days. There was no sand to be found in the bunkers - it was straight mud, at least in the places where the sand traps were not water hazards with multiple inches of standing water. This was a poor poor golf experience and frankly I expected more.
Poor Conditions
Signed up to play the Palms course. They have redone the front nines of the Palm and Pines courses. They made us play the back nines of the Palm and Pine courses. They were in very poor shape. The greens were painted. So we didn't even get to play the front nine of the Palm. Golfers were playing the front nines as a rotation.
Very poor condition for peak season pricing!
Played a 50/50 cause they over booked both courses, played back 9 on Pine and then back nine on Palm. Greens were in terrible condition, all bunkers were concrete, and there was standing water in the fairways on nearly half the holes and it hasn’t rained in weeks… For $140 in peak season, I’ll pass on this one in the future, go play somewhere else.
Don't waste $150 on this course this time of year
I like both the Palms and the Pines courses, but neither was in decent shape for the money. Very disappointing. I realize it's prime season, but it's not worth $150 per person. It's a $75 course at best. Lots of washed out dirt areas on and around the fairways, the greens weren't receptive to high lofted shots, the bunkers were rock hard dirt and the pace of play was slow. I generally don't like putting negative reviews online, but someone needs to take this feedback and make some reasonable improvements if they're going to charge a premium rate. Be aware and take care. Thanks!!
something's fishy w this place
Many people I spoke with who were playing here, complained about the exorbitant green fees for a course that is in embarrassing condition. The bathrooms, the cart paths, some of the greens, the overall neglect, the bunkers (atrocious). The lack of concern from the management is also reflected in the atrocious behavior of the patrons, two of whom I saw drive their cart into a bunker. Not that it mattered because the bunkers are like concrete so who cares? Nobody apparently.
