The Loews Ventana Canyon is the larger of the two with 398 guest rooms and suites, multiple dining areas and pools, including an adults-only pool. It also has four lighted tennis courts and a spa to go along with multiple dining concepts from fine to bar and casual. Course in rough shape
Its summer. In Tucson. The things that make it great to play golf this time of year also make it difficult. The courses are usually in pretty rough shape. Ventana is no exception lotta bare spots on the fairways and greens that are not in good shape. Probably mostly weather related. Little pricey for around in mediocre conditions in a $20 ham sandwich definitely overpriced
Canyon
Rode the Greens (6537/70.7/135) super twilight in less than 3.5H. Low 100's, clear and breezy.
Tees level but several had been recently vericut. Played better than they looked.
Fairways mostly lush and nice to play from.
Bermuda rough maintained low and generally okay to play from.
Sand traps well maintained with good quality, light sand.
Large Bermuda greens rolled nice again. Smooth, firm and medium speed.
Very nice grass driving range included with the golf. Carts do not have GPS. Customer service excellent from all encountered. No drink cart weekdays during the summer, but bottled water provided and nice restaurant onsite. Recommended.
Excellent course and staff, well worth the drive
Great course and staff. Felt like we had course to ourselves. Very friendly staff, Brandon and Ronnel made us want to play again on our next visit. Pace of play was awesome and both courses were challenging. We enjoyed Canyon course the best.
Mountain
Rode the Greens (6537/71.4/139). Around 100, clear and calm. POP was around 4H twilight. Played with a super nice father and adult son from Houston. My type of guys. They drove 14 hours for a 4 day all inclusive golf deal, parked the car, checked into their room and were out playing twilight golf!
Tees level/lush with most divots repaired.
Fairways lush and nice to play from.
Bermuda rough mostly green and decent to play from, not maintained high.
Sand traps very good. Around the greens plenty of soft white sand. Fairway bunkers more firm.
Large Bermuda greens still showing the effects of punching. Medium speed and bumpier than usual, still very firm.
Customer service excellent on all levels. Bottled water provided. No Drink cart late day. Very nice restaurant on site. Nice, all grass practice area which includes range balls. Driving range is close to a mile from the Pro Shop and the basic carts do not have GPS. Nice Fazio layout that is very spread out. Depending on your tee choice, many tee shots hitting over Desertscape. The course plays shorter than the listed yardage because of the elevation and the firmness IMO. Recommended.
Love the Canyon
Of the 2 courses at Ventana, I have always preferred the Canyon. Mountain is also great but Canyon is all right in front of you with no drama. Maybe it's a little easier too. Anyway, who doesn't like posting lower scores?
This time of year its easy to get around in about 3 hours as a twosome which is a big plus.
Canyon
Rode the Greens (6537/70.7/135) super twilight in less than 3.5H. Low 90's, hazy and fairly calm.
Tees level, mostly lush and nice to play from with most divots properly repaired.
Fairways mostly lush and nice to play from.
Bermuda rough maintained low and generally good to play from.
Sand traps well maintained with good quality, light sand.
Large Bermuda greens mostly recovered from aerification. Just okay and medium speed.
Customer service excellent from all encountered. Bottled water provided and nice restaurant onsite. Very nice grass driving range included with the golf. Carts do not have GPS. Varied Fazio layout, tight but still fun to play. Several risk reward par 4's that are tight. Numerous elevated tee shots, constantly up/down rolling hills. Recommended.
Overall Excellent Play
Was arguably the nicest course I played on my Tucson trip. With the exception of the third hole, this really isn't a mountain course, despite the name. However, I thoroughly enjoyed the overall layout of this track. Conditions were excellent from tee to green and the greens ran fairly fast and gave me fits trying to read. Fairways tend to be narrower and course is lined with much more vegetation then the overall desert setting. Forced carries and water come into play on some holes.
Overall a great track and definitely a must play if in the Tucson area.
Canyon
Rode the Greens (6537/70.7/135) super twilight in 3.5H. Around 90, clear and fairly calm.
Difficult layout. Tight but still fun to play. Varied with several risk reward par 4's. Numerous elevated tee shots, constantly up/down rolling hills.
Tees level, mostly lush and nice to play from with most divots properly repaired.
Fairways lush and deceptively undulating, few flat lies. You get divot spots in the collection areas.
Bermuda rough maintained low and generally good to play from.
Sand traps well maintained with good quality, light sand.
Large Bermuda greens were just punched, so they were as expected. Bumpy and medium slow.
Customer service excellent from all encountered. Bottled water provided and nice restaurant onsite. Very nice grass driving range included with the golf. Carts do not have GPS. Canyon front will soon be closed to redo the sprinkler system and I could tell the course was not as well maintained as usual. Still recommended.
Mountain Course greens
The greens currently are the best in Tucson. Perfect shape.
Mountain Ride
The greens were dressed with sand which made putting very difficult on an already very fast green. The price was too high for this condition.
Absolutely wonderful
Set up beautifully easy to navigate, friendly happy staff! Hole 3 mountain course is beautiful..
Canyon
Rode the Greens (6537/70.7/135) super twilight in 3.5H. Mid 90's, clear and fairly calm.
Tees level, lush and nice to play from with most divots properly repaired.
Fairways lush and deceptively undulating, few flat lies. You get divot spots in the collection areas.
Bermuda rough getting greener every day and generally good to play from.
Sand traps plentiful and very well maintained with good quality, light sand.
Large Bermuda greens immaculately maintained. Very firm, medium fast and smooth. You have to play for run out on chips and approach shots.
Customer service excellent from all encountered. Bottled water provided and nice restaurant onsite. Very nice grass driving range included in your fee. Carts do not have GPS. Difficult, tight but still fun to play. Very varied layout with several risk reward par 4's, Many elevated tee shots, constantly up/down rolling hills. Much more down than up.
They are closing one 9 on Canyon soon to redo the sprinkler system. Since I often play late in the day, I have been playing that nine twice to get in 18 several times lately because few play it late in the day. Recommended.
Ventana
Rode the Greens (6537/71.4/139). Mid 80's, clear and breezy. POP was brutal, 4H, 45M twilight. Playing behind a slow group of bad golfers who were just oblivious. Was within 50 yards of them on numerous holes and they did not act like letting any groups play through was an option.
Ventana is very spread out, easy to get lost. Depending on your tee choice, many tee shots hitting over no man's land with forced carries. Long climbs in carts, play down hill, then repeat the process is a common theme. Few holes are severely uphill and being very firm, the course plays shorter than the listed yardage.
Tees excellent with most divots repaired, level/lush.
Fairways lush and nice to play from.
Bermuda rough mostly green and becoming more lush/thick/deep by the day.
Sand traps very good. Around the greens plenty of soft white sand. Fairway bunkers more firm.
Large Bermuda greens smooth, very firm and medium fast. Everything releases here.
Customer service excellent on all levels. Bottled water provided. Drink cart around once. Very nice restaurant on site. Nice, all grass practice area which includes range balls. Driving range is close to a mile from the Pro Shop and the basic carts do not have GPS. Recommended.
Expensive Beer.
Bought a six pack of beer for 25.01 and they charged me twice. Tried to get a hold of the golf club but they did not pick up my phone call. Left a message to return my call but have not heard from them.
Mountain
Rode the Greens (6537/71.4/139) in 3.5H mid day. Mid 90's, clear and windy.
Mountain is the original Ventana course and the layout is the better of the two Ventana courses IMO. First Fazio design west of the Mississippi. Depending on your tee choice, many tee shots hitting over no man's land. The Green tees feature several 150-200 yard forced carries as an example. Long climbs in carts, play down hill, then repeat the process is a common theme. Few holes are severely uphill and IMO, the course plays shorter than the listed yardage.
Tees excellent with most divots repaired, level/lush.
Fairways lush and nice to play from.
Bermuda rough mostly green and becoming more lush/thick by the day.
Sand traps excellent. Around the greens plenty of soft white sand. Fairway bunkers more firm.
Large Bermuda greens smooth, very firm and medium fast.
Customer service excellent on all levels. Bottled water provided. Drink cart around once. Very nice restaurant on site. Nice, all grass practice area which includes range balls. Driving range is close to a mile from the Pro Shop and the basic carts do not have GPS. Definitely recommended.
Canyon
Rode the Greens (6537/70.7/135) twilight in 3.5H. 95, clear and fairly calm. Very difficult course but also fair and very fun to play. Tight but not overly tight... but anything much offline is going to bring penalties into play on most shots. Varied layout with some risk reward par 4's and many elevated tee shots. Constantly up/down rolling hills, much more down than up.
Tees lush and very nice to play from.
Fairways lush and deceptively undulating, few flat lies.
Bermuda rough out of dormancy and generally good to play from.
Sand traps plentiful and very well maintained with good quality, light sand.
Large Bermuda greens medium fast and smooth. Firm, you have to play for run out and immaculately maintained.
Customer service was excellent from all encountered. Bottled water provided and nice restaurant onsite. Very nice grass driving range is included in your fee. Recommended.
