Greens 8.5/10
I’m blessed to be able to play golf 2-3 times per week. I spread my rounds around the valley at different courses. However, I most often return to Whirlwind more than any other course. On July 22nd, 2020 the course (Cattail) was in Great shape. Best greens I’ve played this summer. I arrived only 15 minutes before my round, but last time I was on property the practice facilities are Sickk. Alignment sticks and all. During my round I must’ve seen 15-20 maintenance dudes on that 18 alone-and working their tails off. Most all the bunkers were hand raked. As opposed to every other course during Covid. Cart girls are chill AF, and their food/beverages prices are very reasonable. 2.1 handicap golfer.
My favorite course in south Phx
The Cattail Course has become my fav course in the South Phoenix area. Sure, there are some bare patches of fairway, but hey, it's July in Arizona.
The course was otherwise in great shape, the practice facility is very good and the food excellent.
Slow pace for a early Saturday
No ranger to speed up the group in front of us. When we called the pro shop, they said the group was on pace. Pace is 4 hours 10 minutes.
Players do not wake up for a 6:45 am round to play on pace! Get out, play early and beat the heat in Phoenix!
Play here a lot. It's amazing
Cat Tail review. Devils claw closed right now. The round includes the range, which is first class. Played from the gold tees (6800). Challenging but loads of fun. It's just so pretty out there. The natural landscape is stunning, but it will eat your ball of you're too far off the fairway. Greens were true. Not bumpy, about an 8-9 speed. Bunkers were a little hard, but it is a million degrees in phoenix right now. Can't wait to come back. Ps, watch out for rattlesnakes. I've only seen one. Curled up they will look like a huge cinnamon roll fyi.
Best Value for the Money in Phoenix or Tucson
Four of us played the Cattail Course this morning. Wow! Excellent practice facility and the course was in very good shape considering (it is July in Arizona). The greens were excellent. The beverage cart came around at least twice, plus there was drinking water about every other hole.. The food in the grill was also excellent.
We have played all over Scottsdale and Tucson over the past two months, and this is the best conditioned course yet. Kudos to Whirlwind!
Good experience for July
Course was in pretty good shape for July. some bare spots in the fairway. But tees and greens were good. Pace of play was excellent. Finished in 3:40.
Solid Track
Love both courses at Whirlwind, but Cat Tail is my favorite! Course was in good shape for the dead heat of summer, and the pro shop had some great merchandise deals. Highly recommend!
Never disappointed
Great course. Pace of play poor today. 5 hrs
Met new friends drake and Duane
Crowded Course
I've played at Whirlwind several times in the past and have always enjoyed my round. However, I found that the course was overly crowded for some reason on one of the hottest days of the year. I asked the two individuals that joined my wife and I why it was so busy and they told me about the deal they had with unlimited golf for the summer. That sounds like a good deal for someone that is retired and can play all of the time, but not so good for someone paying full price and being subjected to a crowded course... I'll wait until your summer deal is over before I play there again this year.
Whirl of a day
The only negative thing I witnessed during our outstanding round of golf was the trash that is within the Desert brush
I thank you for allowing my small cooler filled with bottled water and the golf cart woman that we saw twice in our 3.5 hour gave me 2 scoops of ice she was tipped accordingly
Whirl that beverage cart around more often
Excellent Fairway and Green Conditions
Got out early at 6:18am when it was cooler, beautiful fresh morning smell as the course was waking up. Practice facilities were great as usual, complimentary balls, great chipping area with large bunkers.
The fairways and greens were immaculate. We were the second group out and the pace was great, finished in 3 hrs, 15 mins. Some of the best conditions I've ever played.
