Cathedral Canyon

For the discount price it is worth the money. Two holes are under repair from the August Monsoons.

Playing on the edge

This course has so much potential. It will never be incredible depending upon the wash for transit from hole to hole and for a few of the holes. The star was very pleasant helpful and honest.

Greens were in good condition and some of the holes are just beautiful. You will get to use all your clubs and a few bring a few extra balls.

inexpensive golf round - for a reason

1st and 10th holes are a disaster which puts you off the the rest of the round . otherwise just ok . We won't return to this course until they make their repairs to 1 and 10 .

Pretty rough shape

#1 & #10 got beat up from the floods. Most fairways are below average condition. There are weeds growing everywhere. Many bunkers don't have rakes. The greens were very good. The staff was friendly and considerate. Pace of play was slow. 4 1/2 hrs. Should have been 3 1/2. Course layout makes a big difference because it is playable but challenging. Plus no driving range....

Great greens

Cathedral Canyon has great greens and the best conditioned bunkers in the Valley! Kudos to the staff in the pro shop and on the course.

This was the first course I played on a marathon 9-rounds in 5 days trip I took to the Coachella Valley.

Being from the Midwest I felt this was an excellent first course to play to “knock the ice off” my swing. The value was good. You can spray your shots a little bit, but the course does require your attention. And the greens were as good as any I played on this trip. Cathedral Canyon is not one of the best courses in this area, but I enjoyed my round and would recommend it to others.

CONDITIONS: Let’s start with this… the 10th hole was washed out sometime in the past year or so and does not play as a par 5. Rather it was about a 170-yard par 3 the day I played it. I think this is a blessing, as the full par 5 looks like it was a bear of a hole. I didn’t feel this change impacted the enjoyment of my round in any way (plus, if you go long of this green you’ll be lucky to score a 5 anyway).

The fairways and greens were as good as any course I played in this area. Actually, the greens were some of the best (speed and breaks) I played. The tee boxes and bunkers could use some TLC. Actually, the bunkers would be my biggest gripe. The rough wasn’t overseeded (or at least I hope it wasn’t) and played as a dormant grass (which is fine).

VALUE: I chose to play this course first on my trip because of its affordability compared to other area courses. This course is a fair value.

LAYOUT: This course winds thru housing, and some of the greens are pretty far from the next tee box (don’t plan on walking this one… take a cart). It has some tough par 4s with water (#2, #3, #15, #16), and #5 and #14 can be tough par 5s. Have your camera ready for #17.

FRIENDLINESS: The staff were very helpful. Also, I had a blast playing with the 2some and other single I was paired with.

PACE: We had an early morning tee time. Still, we never caught the group ahead or saw the group behind. Great day!

DIFFICULTY: It’s definitely not easy. This course seems to demand a lot off your tee shot (par 4s above), OR a lot off your approach (par 5s), OR a lot off your putting (par 3s)… but never everything all on the same hole. Lost about 4 balls in the water.

Really good greens

Staff was fantastic and greens were in good shape but the rest of the course was really dry and unkept. Great layout but course is not being taken care of.

Greens are good

Greens were in good shape but the rest of the course is a disaster. Not maintained. Lots of dirt spots. Traps were thin and dirty. Played a 3hr round and the layout /views are fine.

Lousy Course

Poor condition, unkempt, with confusing signage (and lack of) to get between holes. Only one water station on a desert course.

Clearly the ownership has little pride in this course as it is a wreck.

Diamond in the rough

First and tenth fairways have been damaged by prior storms. Rest of course is in good shape.
