Not on Time
We book at 10:50 Tee time but they had started a full tournament before so we got started closer to 11:40 No fun at all. They did give us a voucher to come back but that expires very soon. Call before to make sure no tournament that day. Pace was about 5:30 hours so we only played 11 holes.
back nine only
no explanation why only back nine. conditions were fine on the back. Also not discount as they do when aerating. Not good customer service. But I enjoy the course and hope it is a temp glitch.I recommend it when all is in normal operation.
Greens were firm and smooth. Fairways were in decent shape. Native grass is brutal; difficult to find a stray ball. Don’t miss the fairways!
Not What It Used to Be
I have played this course multiple times when I travel to CA. Initially … approximately 8 years ago … the course was kept in top notch condition and was a great track. Those days are long gone. The course is quickly deteriorating. There appears to be little or no upkeep beyond required mowing. It’s is very quickly spiraling downward into just another beaten up municipal course. It certainly is no longer the John Daly designed showcase that it initially was. There also appears to be no regard to pace of play or number of players in a group. I was paired with a twosome and we found ourselves behind a six person group with two dogs using 4 carts. We literally gave up on any attempt to play the back nine and requested to play the front nine again at the turn. The request was granted but there was zero acknowledgement of the ridiculous nature of the group ahead by the person in the starter shack. As much as I enjoyed the course previously it saddens me to say that I won’t go back again.
Friendly staff and we had a nice round there.
Jim was very nice and helpful checking us in to golf. Sy was also very nice and helpful getting us out onto the course. It has been a rough winter, and they are trying to get the sand traps in nicer shape. Number 18 has a drainage issue in the valley before the green, making it unplayable there.
no trees
I enjoy this course , it is one of my faves. It is a difficult one if you dont hit it straight. Balls are lost if your ball goes into the rough. It is hilly with very few flat lies. But it is a fair test of golf abilities. Greens are in good condition and have quite abit of undulation. I recommend this course.
1 of my faves
No trees, alot of rough, but despite the challenges, it is a great course. It is tough the first couple of times you play it, but becomes more fun as you become familiar with it. Conditions are usually excellent except after heavy rain, but it gets less rain than the east side of the valley. Recommended!!!
Not what it used to be...
and customer service was not bad, but, objectionable. I will never return nor recommend this as a golf option. I suggest management take customer service lessons as a starting point for improving the RH golf experience.
Conditions
Wow they have really let this course go. It would be really fun if it was kept up nicer. Which is a shame because it isn’t overly dry like some places in NorCal get. So you know they have the water. The ball doesn’t roll out very far on fairways compared to most link style courses. Most of the bunkers are complete trash. I swear the sand mixture for replacing divots most have a different kind of grass because where there is a common place divots would be taken there are a bunch of little tuffs of grass sticking up that are different and tall. The surface around the green is patchy and weedy. Greens are better than the rest of the course but still random weeds and ungodly slow. Just a shame, the course is fun but gzzz rough shape.
Good course, better bargain
Not many places you can play a course this nice for $50, even on a weekday. Yes, it's Corning and it can be hot and windy, but we started at 8:30 and had no problems. Grass driving range and nice putting green to start. Played as a foursome with my parents and my son. Parents are high handicap but play the correct tees and make sure to stay on pace so it was odd to have a group skip a hole and pass us on 6 when we were only 1 minute behind per the cart. Course was in very good condition, greens rolled well. Bunkers were in good shape. Enjoyed the round thoroughly and wouldn't hesitate to come back.
