JW Marriott Marco Island Beach Resort

My wife and I are on vacation and we just played at Hammock Bay golf early this morning. It was a terrible round. Our worst time ever playing golf. All four in our group were covered with mosquitos the entire time. There were a dozen on us the entire round. None of us could concentrate on any shots since we were surround by buzzing mosquitos. After paying $170 a person a round with $90 each for rented clubs, we expected better. We could not leave soon enough after the round finished. We stayed covered with mosquitos until we got into our car. I literally have over a hundred bites on me after the round. I tried to bring this to the attention of our concierge at the JW Marriott where we were staying. I figured a high client service hotel would be concerned about a guests experience. He said he was sorry, but he said there was nothing he could do. He advised me to call the Hammock Bay Pro Shop. I called the Hammock Bay Pro Shop and Nick answered my call. He said he was sorry, but nothing he could do. After paying $260, we expected more. If mosquitos are that bad, they should warn before we start the round. Maybe give a free can of deet per person per round. I highly suggest you never play this course during the summer since they are all excuses and do not care about making the experience right. I would have given no stars if that was an option.

We played here on a family vacation. We called the clubhouse to inquire about a tee time and the person the phone told us to book online because it was cheaper. We booked online through the course's website for $127. When we got to the course, they told us that it was one rate all day. They said that the "best rate available" was by booking as a JW Marriott guest and that rate was $159. The two guys behind the desk didn't really seem to care that we had a confirmation # for $127 from their own website. We were already at the course and the tee time was soon so we went ahead and teed off and figured we would deal with it later. Once we got on the course, there's no halfway house (never mentioned) and the course doesn't seem to wind back to the clubhouse. They told us there would be a beverage cart going around. After 12 holes and no bev cart, a message on the cart GPS screen pops up and says something to the effect of "To get back to the clubhouse, go down the cart path toward 8 and turn down a service path towards 3 green". Now, as a first time guest, I have no way of knowing that that means, especially since we just finished the 12th hole. We called the clubhouse, and after going through a wildly long phone tree to get a hold of the pro shop, we asked about the beverage cart. They said that the were getting the cart fixed and she would be right out. I thought it was weird that they seemingly only had a single Bev cart, but nevertheless, the beverage cart never came by after 3 hours and 35 minutes. The greens were also very recently sanded, another fact that wasn't mentioned. The course was fine, great shape, decent layout, but I just can't get passed the overall experience. Poor communication from the pro shop, a bait and switch pricing policy, and a complete lack of amenities is more than enough to keep me from coming back here.

This and the Rookery are the JW Marriott courses at Marco island. Hammock Bay is a really solid layout. No bad holes, but nothing really super-challenging. It is resort golf, so it looks intimidating at times, but plays easier than appears. Good variety of green complexes. Great condition of greens, fairways, and bunkers. Par 5's provide great birdie opportunities, par 4's are good with some challenging tee shots. Perfect course to relax and enjoy a round of fun golf!

Really good, fun course. This and Hammock Bay are the home courses at the JW Marriott on Marco. Conditions were really good despite 1" of rain before we feed off. Greens roll fairly quick and very true. My only real issue is the 18th hole doesn't visually fit the rest of the course, but it is a really good hole, and #9 plays shorter by going down #1 fairway, which is a bad design flaw and a safety issue. These are minor issues as the course is really solid, and I Definitely would play here again.

You have to have your A game to score well at the Rook!

Course staff and conditions are always first rate.

I thought this course was in great shape. Fairways were plush and greens rolled true and were quick. The layout was excellent and challenging. Played from the middle tees as it was first time playing course. Could have probably moved back a set. However for the price this was not the best value in the Naples/Marco Island area. Played at Tiburon the following day for much cheaper and better conditions and atmosphere. If you’re willing to spend the money this certainly is a great course but I feel there are better values out there.

5 hour round. Waited on every hole.

The reason is that the property is owned by the marriott . When they have large conferences at the hotel you have groups that take up the entire morning and back up the course. If you can get a tee time on a day that isn't super busy you will have fun.

The course layout was good and fun. the condition was nice. The best part was the chilled hand towels at the turn. I would play there again, but I would make sure it was early or on a day that wasn't busy with bus loads of conference goers.

A great course and a fantastic lay-out. Super fairways and fast greens. Challenging with water, bunkers, doglegs etc. Fantastic to play and we’ll play this course more often.

Hammock Bay is another great gem of a course in the Marco/Naples area. The course is always in super conditions, the staff is friendly and very accommodating to your needs. The facilities are real good and the 19th hole's Steak sandwich, MMM.

Pace of play was good for a Saturday morning, Greens rolled really good, sometimes too good. Just a good course to play more than once a season. I will try to return more often.

The Rookery is a piece of heaven close to Marco Island and Naples Florida. The course staff, very friendly, course conditions extremely good and to watch the sunrise from the first tee was amazing. To feel the marsh and wet lands wake up to the sun, breath that fresh ocean breeze just great. I go back two or more times a year, I am fortunate to live just 1.30 minutes away in Miami. My wife and friends love it, my son feels its a real challenge from the blue tees. I just love the design and the conditions of the greens.

Must be accurate from tee to play this course. Very tight w crown fairways running fast and firm. The staff working were outstanding and cater to your needs. Pace was 4:25 which for this track was pretty good. Def say book on golf18.com seeing they offer a few discount tee times everyday. I cant wait to go back. Fyi beverage cart was avalable w drinks and snacks plus easy on the eyes

We did not play too well, but that definitely was not because of the course. Overall rating well deserved 5 stars!

Hammock Bay was in excellent condition even though there has been a lot of daily, heavy, rain. The staff is both very friendly and helpful. The course itself is very scenic with the back nine even more lovely.

Price unbeatable for single. Nice practice faciitiy. Course in excellent shape for Summer heat...

This course is beautifully landscaped and well maintain. There were a few holes where we couldn't ride on the fairway but there has been a lot of rain this summer so it's understandable. Just means one needs to take several sticks over to the ball. The course is demanding, but still forgiving if you play within your game. Highly recommendable!

Somewhat challenging to find course in Fiddler's Creek Subdivision.

Played in the early afternoon in late July. There was hardly anyone on the course which was pleasantly surprising. The course was in great shape, greens were true and not aerated nor sanded. The course was challenging yet friendly. Use the GPS.

We got a Hot Deal on Golf Now for $22 per golfer.

This course is one of the best in Naples. Perfect condition, great Par 3's and an uphill par 5...wow! Loved it!

I have played here once before many years prior and I can tell you the quality of the all around experience was the highest. The course is 100% and the staff welcoming. I was informed that the greens were plugged and sanded about 2 weeks prior and you never had known. This is simply a great course and I give it the highest of recommendations. Will be going back at first chance.
