Worth the time
Great course. Beautiful atmosphere and environment. This course is absolutely worth visiting. The journey/drive up is part of the experience, especially once you get off the interstate. Great views from the course. It’s hard to believe you are only in the foothills bc of the elevation changes, but I never felt like I was having to hit uphill, they mostly felt downhill. Conditions are great with generous fairways. The rough is not very penalizing as it is also a low cut, kind of like a resort course in Florida. However, get outside the rough and it’s trees and whispy, tall grass. The greens are great but know going into it that they are quick greens! For some reason also, you just want them to break more but they hold their line beautifully, only when the ball starts dying off in speed will it move left or right. Pay attention to the pin locations for your approach and around the green shots as this will determine the type of shot required. It’s challenging to hold the greens so you may need to land it short and run it up or throw it high to reduce the rollout.
Even if the course eats up your score you will walk away having enjoyed your round. If your interested, you could even turn it into a stay-cation as there are mini houses that you can rent so you can golf, enjoy food and drinks, they also have ponds to fish, horses to ride amongst the trails, a shooting/clay range and various other ammenities.
If you haven’t already or if you want to take someone who has not been, or are considering revisiting and just looking to get away from the city and play a type of course not common around Atlanta go play Barnsley Resort and you’ll have a great relaxing time.
ENJOY!!
Top Notch Course
This course has amazing mountain views on many holes, great elevation changes, and a fun but challenging layout. There were a few tee boxes that needed some work, and we never saw a beverage cart the entire day, but overall the experience was great. The pace of play was amazing, it felt like we had the course to ourselves the entire time. We even saw deer on the 18th hole to top it off. We will be back and seriously consider membership. It is definitely worth the drive from Atlanta!
Great greens
Barnsley has the best greens in the business. The course In great shape.
Good Course
No one to greet us outside, so we really didn’t know where to go. No refreshments on the course. People in pro shop were friendly but never offered any help. When we found the first tee we had no idea where to hit our shot. A nice course like this should have a gps system on the carts even if they had to change a little more! Nice course and area.
Worth the Price
First time playing at Barnsley Gardens and it sure didn’t disappoint. Staff was very friendly, pace of play was great, not too much waiting and no backups. Greens were very fast compared to what I’m used to, but it was a welcome challenge. Loved the course layout, easy to follow and not a lot of lost balls.
Love the place
Great golf course. Tough layout fast greens. Great restaurant friendly staff. Top notch resort.
Accurate rating!!
I played this course because it has been on GolfAdvisors Best Courses in Georgia list for the past several years. It did not disappoint! It is a very long course. I played in March and the bermuda was still dormant but the greens were in great shape, hard and fast but fair. The par 3's are all difficult, long, downhill, slopes off the greens or water. I would recommend playing in May or early June before it gets too hot when the grass has turned green and staying at the resort to enjoy the amenities they offer.
Unique NW Georgia Resort
I was unaware of the unique resort that is part of the golf course. The resort has many homes in a small town setting, a spa, poo, etc.
I found the golf course on my first play to be a ton of fun. However, I found several of the holes that reside in the flatter portions of the property to be a little bland and blend together from a memorability standpoint.
I did enjoy the grouping of par 3's: the long third hole rise slightly uphill to an undulating green, the 8th is a long drop shot par 3 with a green that falls off precipitously to the back and left, the 14th is another huge drop shot par 3 with a flowing creek in front and the 17th finishes with a reverse redan green with fortifications / deep bunkering in front.
Holes I enjoyed were the 18th with the creek / pond down the left side finishing to a raised green, par 5 4th, 8th, 14th, and 17th.
