Great course, greens were not the best

I love this course, it’s one of my favorites in the area but my only Qualm arrow head point is the greens are always slow. There were some bare spots on the green today and they look like they had aerated a few weeks ago which I don’t have a problem with that and the value for the money is great. If they would just improve the greens and when they have Good grass on the greens they just need to speed them up. It would be definitely one of the best courses all around in the area. The layout is Awesome the views are awesome and I always enjoy my time there, just get the greens rolling !!!

Gem

Love the course! Conditions have deteriorated significantly over the years. Used to be top notch. Tees without grass, greens dying, and with that said, great value. Just wish it was better maintained.

Never disappoints

Fantastic golf course. You can’t find a prettier stretch of holes next to the lake on the back 9.

Worth the drive

This course is an enjoyable experience. The front nine is played through mostly wooded and slightly rolling terrain. The back nine leads away from the woods and beginning with the 12th hole, you are become more exposed to the open air and winds as the course works it’s way out onto a peninsula in the lake. The 14th hole and 15th hole are played along a narrow peninsula and offer long panoramic views of the lake and will cause you to take a moment to admire them. The long lake views will also bring along a rush of wind, as the air flow has a long unobstructed run before crashing into the shoreline of the exposed peninsula.

The course is well off the beaten path, so unless there is an event or unusual circumstance, the amount of play will be light. Pace of play is only limited by your own ability to hit it straight as well as the kindness and etiquette of the unfortunate foursomes who struggle with finding errant tee shots in the densely wooded areas and tall grasses.

Magnificent NE Georgia Jewel

It this State Park course was easier to get to, it would be packed with players. As with most state park courses, the bunkers are rough(stones), but otherwise, this is a jewel. Beautiful, challenging, elevation changes, windy, large greens.

Excellent course, especially for state park

We love this place. Great staff, super layout.

Only criticism we have is tees were a little thin, and brush, small trees are growing up around some lakeside holes and they obstruct the glorious views.

Hope they can clear it out soon.

Worth the drive!

Take a day and include this course in your plans. Very friendly staff. Have played 2 other state park courses and this is my favorite- many holes border the water and it’s beautiful.

Poor conditions. Poa anna grass dominated the greens. I was shocked at how badly the course had been maintained. This used to be a beautifully maintained course but has deteriorated badly.

Poa Anna Take Over

I have played this course many times over the years and it has always been in great condition. I was very disappointed today that the course, fairways, greens have been taken over by poaanna grass. Me and my friends drove two hours each way to play and it was a big disappointment.

My go to course

I live only 30 mins away so I often play here. I would have a guess that I’ve played here 25-30 times in the past 3 years. The course is located within a state park & there’s not a single house. The front 9 takes you through the woods, the back 9 takes around a large Lake Russell peninsula. The layout is challenging but fair. My favorite hole is #5, a double dog leg - par 5. Hole # 5 requires a perfect tee shot...too short, you can’t hit through the dog legs, too long you’re in the traps or woods. All the greens are very tricky because green speed is determined by the exposure to full sun vs partially shaded. The recent reviews mentions weeds on tee boxes & lots of crab grass. I played during that time & I have to agree the crabgrass made putting very frustrating. However, I played here on 4.24.19 and 99% of the weeds & crabgrass have been abated. Only one green had crabgrass & it was very sparse. I’ve played at several HHI & Bluffton courses ranging $ 70 -$90. Arrowhead’s layout & course conditions remind me alot of Dolphin Head GC on HHI. Arrowhead is just as nice as HHI area courses & half the cost.

Golf Pass Rocks!

I joined Golf Pass in 2019 and receive a free round of golf each month. Some friends asked me to join them at Arrowhead so I decided to use it. While I was happy to get a free round of golf, this course is worth full-price! The views from the back nine are breath taking! Water doesn't really come into play from the reds, so I enjoyed the beauty without feeling intimidated.

The course design is good and does provide a nice challenge. There are a ton of weeds on the tee boxes and a lot of the greens. But the course is well groomed. I will be back!
