Great scenic course
If your average score is a 100 and you don't have a long drive do yourself a favor and play off the red tees on a lot of the holes. It's a great course with friendly staff and a nice concept of food and drinks included in the price. A good idea would also be to familiarize yourself with the course layout as there are many brutal surprises if you don't. Was both a frustrating and enjoyable experience. If you are a senior don't try to hit from the same tees as your youngsters.. I know better next time!
best maintained course nearby
From the blue tees this course is 6200 yds. It played like a 7000 yd course. Fairways were very tight and driver distances will get you in trouble on a significant number of holes. Several long carries to small landing areas across coves in the lake. Elevation changes added to the difficult club selections. They really need to add signage to inform you of required carry distances. The most beautiful and best maintained course in the area by far.
Thank you for your review. We always try to identify first time players and recommend yardage books. We apologize if that did not happen yesterday. There certainly are some challenging holes. We appreciate your positive review of the golf course and hope you will come back soon.
Wait for the rain to come!
Pete Dye would blush at this layout under current conditions and say "Yeah, Maybe I went a bit to far!". The layout here is incredibly tough. Blind tees shots to narrow fairways are common and often, nay, nearly always include danger out of view. With no GPS in the carts, no hole images on the tees, card or in the cart I found myself cursing not buying a course guide as it is essential unless you wish to guess at carries and enjoy continual nasty surprises. Relief that you made the green is short lived as they are very quick, have few flat areas and again are somewhat blind with perimeter undulations to kick around the shots you thought were not your best but good enough.
Layout aside the course is beautiful. Well maintained with great views of the lake and subtle features (like the accent grass around the bunkers) make this one of the most picturesque courses around.
Okay, back to the complaining! The main issue at the moment is the firmness of the fairways and greens. Getting those kinds of bounces and so much run on blind shots to small targets is enough to drive anyone insane. A recommended course but wait for the rain (if we ever get any), buy the course guide ($3) and steel yourself for a fight.
Course management - please consider putting hole images somewhere and carry yardages on the tees of the relevant holes for those whom didn't buy the vital information. It would make the round so much more enjoyable if not taxing our math skills!
Greens
Very fast on the particular day I played which is fine however it was for every hole not just a majority which I had never seen before.
total relaxation
very good sandwiches and soft drinks provided in the green fee price. all the range balls you want to hit. enough breath taking views of lake lanier to put you to sleep and great weather. some sidehill pin placements that drove me crazy. a truly great day of golf.
Great Course with Great Views
Very good golf course, views of the lake are outstanding, well worth the price.
A scenic treat
First, a great value as the fee includes cart, green fees, range balls and food and drinks. From quick breakfast items to hot dogs. The staff and marshall are very friendly and helpful and we were able to tee off early which was great. The course is a challenge for any level of golfer but the sheer beauty seems to balance the occasional frustration of a missed putt. One of Georgia's must play courses. And for late summer greens and fairways were in excellent shape.
Call Ahead
7/16/16 The greens were badly punched. Every green was a sand box. Call ahead to check. Really unfortunate because the rest of the course, I mean tee boxes and fairways etc, were perfect. Definitely not worth the price for the bad greens. If the greens match the rest of this course, it will be worth every penny.
AWESOME course with beautiful views of Lake Lanier
I loved playing Legacy at Lanier golf course.
I love it how one price includes EVERYTHING. You pay for your golf then food, beverages, snacks are all included. Even the range balls are included in the price. The course is in excellent condition. The greens roll true and are fast. The wort thing about the greens is that nobody fixes their ball marks and there are ball marks all over the greens from lazy, careless golfers who do not fix their ball marks.
I will definately be back to play again and again. The views of the lake on almost every hole on the front nine is awesome. I saw deer on several holes as I played which made the round even more enjoyable.
An island in the middle of Lake Lanier
Most beautiful views in North Georgia. They had just punched the greens so they were pretty bad.
Hello,
I work at Legacy Golf Course and just wanted to thank you for your review but also point out that there was an alert on Golfnow, a message on our own website booking engine and our staff advised all customers of the aeration on July 5th. We do think that the alert was a little small on the Golfnow booking site though so we do apologize for that oversight. The greens are getting back to their normal excellent level and hope you will give us another try soon. Thank you for your review.

Legacy Golf Course
What a course
I'm from Chicago and down in Atlanta area visiting a friend.
I can not think of a more breath taking course that I've ever played. That includes Hawaii. What a great layout. I'd like to move to Atlanta just to play this more often. An absolute must play if you're in the area
Rediculous
Contrived, repetitive, silly! Idyllic site with a horrible routing. Extremely poor use of a fabulous site. The opening several holes are routed along water left and trouble right. Reasonably long forced carries over water that are unfair for shorter hitters, seniors or juniors. A few holes are missing the windmill or gorilla to shoot through. Would not recommend this as a serious course for anyone with an interest or understanding of golf. Courses like this dissuade novices golfers from playing golf.
Million dollar views but extremely challenging!
Legacy on Lanier has got to be one of the most underrated, scenic courses in the Gwinnett/surrounding area. This course has some many incredible features. Half the holes are lined with lake lanier which makes for a very lovely, scenic course but also makes some quite intimidating tee shots as some are 200+ yard carries over water! I love and hate playing this course all at the same time as if you're game isn't on, it will be a long day. But theres a lot to love about Legacy, as they include food and drinks with your round, the practice facilities are extensive and well-maintained. This is a great course and is a bucket-list course for anyone local or traveling to the Atlanta area. It will not disappoint!
Good course at a good price
I played Legacy on Lanier with three other family members in July. None of us had ever played the course before. The course was in decent condition, but there were some rough areas, especially on the 4th hole. The course winds in and out of the lake and has some significant elevation changes. Holes 11-13 are especially beautiful. Included with your green fee is unlimited food and drink (non-alcoholic) in the clubhouse. My only major criticism is that a lot of local knowledge is required to play this course. There are several blind tee shots and no description of the hole layouts at the tee box or in the cart. I play to a 12 handicap and drive the ball reasonably straight. When I hit a long drive, I approach 280 yds. On several occasions, I drove the ball through the fairway and into a hazard. I'm looking forward to playing again with a better idea of what to do off of each tee.
Hardest "Short" Course Around
Legacy on Lanier has been in my normal rotation for a long time. It is one of the most difficult shorter courses around. Holes 12-15 are a real challenge with water carries, wavy tilted greens, and some distance. This is a course that you really use every club in the bag and where placement is much more important than distance. There are lots of birdie chances on some holes and lots of big numbers than can strike on others. Very friendly staff, food, snacks, some beverages and range balls included which makes the price more reasonable. Pace of play is almost always excellent.
Excellent surroundings
The friendliest golf course employees I have had the opportunity to meet on any golf course I have played.
The sights are wonderful to experience. Makes you feel you are on vacation every time you play. Would recommend that this course should be experienced by everyone.
Great course
Fantastic staff makes the difference. Course and amenities are outstanding and treating the seniors with a great membership plan is well done.
Beautiful Lake course
A well managed, challenging, destination course with many picturesque views. I think all the holes are interesting and/or challenging. On number 8 mentioned by one reviewer, some pin placements will end up with the regulation ball back down the hill after the put. At least it is challenging for this senior.
Quality Course
A quality course with a great lay-out, exceptional staff, and the best senior card offering of any course in the area. The scenery is beautiful. While a challenging course, it is fun and enjoyable to play.
Nice course with great views
Location on the lake is hard to beat. Beautiful views. Lots of water in play. Condition of tee boxes and fairways were pretty solid. Greens were rolling fast.
With snacks and beverages included, I'd play it again in a heartbeat!
