Not worth it!
If you drive to the course then good luck parking your car. You would think they would have worked out parking for off site golfers but the left hand has no idea what the right hand is doing!
The greens are warn out and not maintained and the same is true for the fairways. The bunkers NEED SAND unless you like hitting in gravel. The staff don’t care if you enjoy your round or not. I got the feeling it isn’t their job. Save your money and play at “Hapuna Prince” where the course and staff are wonderful. HP is the best course in the area with perfect maintained greens, fairways and friendly staff!
Very nice course but a little pricey. we played in under 3 1/2 hours and enjoyed the views which we spectacular. Best course we played out of three while we were in the area. Would play this course again if in the area!
Beautiful views and variety of terrain.
It was a beautiful and fun course. Much variety in layout. Fairway’s wide but still presented challenge as you approached greens which are often protected by bunkers requiring accurate iron play.
Rough greens
For a course that's not inexpensive, the greens are terrible. They are rough, bumpy, and not very well kept. The greens are not very true. Very disappointing, to say the least.
Crossed Mauna Kea off my bucket list :)
My Grandparents loved to visit & play at Mauna Kea way back from the mid 60’s to mid 70’s, so playing here has been on my bucket list for over 50 years.
My 1st impression wasn’t good, as we had issues with parking, then waiting to get our bags loaded on a cart. We were very early for our tee time, so stopped in the “food shack” (lol) for lunch, which took awhile but tasted excellent, with friendly service.
The starter was friendly, & off we went. My big surprises of the day were the course looked & played longer than I thought it would (1 hole was 600+ yards ) , and although I had read the course had a lot of sand traps, it was ridiculous how many it does have, once you see it for yourself. Every hole is beautiful, & most were in excellent condition, especially based on the traffic they must have to deal with.) There were some bare spots, but on the whole the grass was in good shape. A few greens looked a tad worn up (we played later in the day), & were all on the faster side.
We enjoyed the round, and our hats are off to the beer cart gal who was super friendly. I most likely won’t return (mainly due to the expense), but am glad I’m able to cross this one off my bucket list !
Beautiful Course
Our first of four rounds while we were visiting Hawaii and we weren't disappointed. Course was in great shape and the greens were very receptive and ran true. Great ocean view holes so even when you hit an errant shot, the views and the cool breeze make up for it. Of the four courses we played, this is one of the two we'd play again.
Beautiful and challenging!
One of our favorite courses in Hawaii. Lots of beautiful views to make you forget about your bad shots. :)
Prettiest Course Yet
We got a great rate on GolfNow to play this course, so we couldn't pass it up. We were spoiled from the moment we checked in. Course has gorgeous views. There is an extremely large number of sand traps, and I found too many of them. They could have had more/better sand, but otherwise the course was amazing.
Great layout and views
Greens are struggling unfortunately. Great layout and they are not slow but they aren’t very true
Amusement Park Golf!
You can’t beat what they throw at you at Mauna Kea, so just go with it and think Mai Tai after!
ColoMaunaKea
Beautiful but difficult course. The course had extremely difficult pin placements that made short play quite hard. Scenery was outstanding
