About Wisp Resort
The Wisp Resort’s 172 acres of ski terrain are heaven for winter-sports enthusiasts, but this resort offers so much more year-round. It is an outdoor playground for all ages thanks to Deep Creek Lake and an endless array of mountainous adventures: canopy tours, segways, mountain biking, a mountain coaster, disc golf, 36 holes of regular golf, gem mining, pontoon boat tours, whitewater rafting and flatwater kayaking. The Fantasy Valley and Lodestone golf courses both boast soaring scenery. Lodestone, designed by Hale Irwin, features some of the largest greens on the East Coast.Facts

Worst course I’ve ever played- over priced
I’d give those ZERO. And would not recommend or play again. This is by far the worst course I’ve ever been too. At $70+ to play here for 18holes this should be in great shape and the carts should be better, for $70 it should have a range finder on it. I’ve played $30 course that are better than this. The fairways are rough and the rough is uncut geass. The greens have numerous divots, patches, bumps, and tons of goose droppings everywhere. The tee boxes are embarrassing and not well marked at times. The course itself could be good but it’s also a very odd layout. If you’re going to have a horrible course, at least have a course that is more enjoyable. You can’t be ugly and horrible layout. Overall I would STAY AWAY
If you’re here on vacation and really want to golf look else where and look at reviews. These ones were giving a warning I should have took but I had no idea it could actually be that bad
Price isn’t worth it
Course fairways and green were very patchy. Pace of play was terrible.
Great improvements
Sand traps are still meh, but the greens, tee boxes and fairways are in excellent condition.
Great improvements since 2 years back
Horrible
Rough wasn’t mowed, grass hardly mowed at all. Will never play again. Can’t believe it has a 3 star rating.
Over-rated
My wife and I had a 10:20 tee-time. I asked the guy at the clubhouse how crowded the tee times were around us since it was a Thursday; he said there were 2 foursomes behind us but just a 2some in front of us. the 10:30 foursome was on the tee-box before we were even to our second shot. There is no starter here to regulate tee times and for the flagship course of Wisp you would kind of expect it. The bunkers are so unkept that they detract from any view this course might have. Just tall hayfield grass around neglected bunkers that mar the landscape. There is oddly not a single trash can on the course, so any empty water bottles, snack wrappers, or beer cans end up in the back of the cart. This course has the feel of any other public muni that just charges more money. Clubhouse has hotdogs and candy-bars at the turn, but that's about it.
Challenging and enjoyable course for every level of golfer
Course played nicely with challenging layout and greens. Only minor issue was several fairway bunkers were overgrown and unplayable
Course has been neglected but is improving. Pace of play, however, was terrible.
Course itself was nice for the most part. Greens had a few slight imperfections and rolled very fast but you could tell they were growing in well. Would appreciate the opportunity to play the course again if pace of play is managed correctly. Bunkers were hard as concrete and had rocks in them.
The two-star review comes from the terrible pace of play with no correction to be given by course staff. We were warned that it was their busiest day to date by course staff, who was very nice and apologetic, but even after receiving multiple complaints, the ranger(s) did nothing about play pace and left the course and went home before anyone finished their round. We were stuck behind 3 foursomes that were essentially playing altogether as one group of 12.
Great staff, challenging course
Played in a foursome on Mother's Day with my wife and kids. The clubhouse staff couldn't have been more accommodating. It was a cold and wet day with the course being affected by rain and the surrounding geographic attributes affecting a mountainous course. We were rained on several times on the front nine and while waiting on the turn. We asked for a nine-hole rain check and were pleasantly surprised by an 18-hole raincheck/replay. We will definitely go back and try it later in the season when it is hopefully drier. The course just opened for the season ten days earlier, so we will give the course another shot in the season.
Best Golf Course
This is my favorite course to play. The challenge it gives, but the scenery is beautiful. It was cold and the pro shop had beanies to purchase to keep warm. I’m a Florida girl and I get cold easy.
I try to play it every year.
Would you recommend this course over Oakland?
