About Gull Lake View Golf Resort

Since the 1960s, the Scott family has transformed 2,000 acres in southwest Michigan into one of America's largest golf resort communities. Situated in the appropriately named Augusta, Michigan, near Kalamazoo and Battle Creek, Gull Lake View Golf Resort has become synonymous with affordable packages where golfers stay in comfortable villas to enjoy six different courses, all from different eras. The East and West courses were built in the mid-1960s and mid-1970s, with the two Stonehedge courses added later in 1989 and 1994. The family bought the Bedford Valley, a classic course known for hosting tournaments, in 1988 and then put the feather in the cap, debuting the linksy Stoatin Brae by Renaissance Golf Design in 2017. Those who fall in love with the experience can buy real estate in one of several neighborhoods.

Only going to get better!!!

Very nice course that will continue to improve over the summer and in the coming years. Fair layout. The greens ran smooth but not overly fast. By design it is a rugged, natural, links style golf course. No trees to speak of, rolling hills, some blind tee shots. Not much else like it in Southwest Lower Michigan. It all adds up to a very enjoyable round of golf. Worth it.

Gull Lake East

This ia a great course! It is well maintained with new GPS golf carts. The greens were slower then I care for them to be. The course setting is beautiful as it snakes throuhnthe wooded setting.

Poor Customer Service

My friends and I have been meeting at Gull Lake View Report for the past 10 years. We love the facilities and the assortment of courses, but in the past couple years we have had some service issues. The latest is regarding our set tee times. We were asked to reserve our rooms and tee times about a year prior to our trip - AND put down a deposit. Recently, they changed our tee times, and they do not work out in our favor. Not only have they not left enough time to get from one course to the other (we play 36 holes per day), but they moved us from the highly publicized Stoatin Brae to Gull Lake East. If you know these courses, you realize that Gull Lake East is the least desirable course they have to offer. You also realize that 4-hours rounds are impossible. When we called to express our concerns, they told us to pound salt. Is that a way to treat a long-time client. I think NOT!!! Obviously, the demand to play at these facilities is causing them to not care about their customers. Very short-term thinking.

Accuracy premium

The east course demanded accuracy over distance. The course was in great shape and the greens had almost completely recovered from aeration.

Still a Beauty!

I haven't played Gull Lake View in about 20 years. Booked a 8:51 am tee time for the west course. Upon arrival the pro asked if we wanted to follow a 16 player group or if we wanted to play the east course with no one to follow. No brainer....we played the east course with absolutely no one in sight and had a great time. Course was a little soggy, but considering the amount of rain we have had lately, very playable. Overall condition of the course was quite good considering a whole season of play on it. Greens had not fully recovered from top dressing but were very playable. I would absolutely recommend playing!!!

Don't waste your time or money

Had a tee time set for Sunday, and I don't think I could have been more disappointed. For starters, I've played there before and hadn't been impressed, and was absolutely shocked to find out it cost $65 to play a round - had I done better research ahead of time I'd have chosen to play one of the many other courses around town that offer a superior experience at a lesser cost, but that's just the beginning.

My biggest gripe is pace of play - it took our foursome nearly 6 hours to complete a round, by far the longest round of golf I've ever played. We had to wait on every single hole, often multiple times. We finished the front 9 in 2:35, and as we pulled up to make the turn, realized there were 6 groups on the 10th hole (2 playing, 4 waiting). We had to wait about 35min to tee off, and should have just left at this point. By the time we had teed off on 10, we were already over 3 hours into our round (my group usually plays 18 in about 3:30). The ranger was at the 10th and we were "joking" with him about the slow pace, and he pretty much just laughed at us and said it's always like this out here, what did you expect? I did not expect that response, I can tell you that much!

For the price, I also expected things to be a little "nicer". Only about half of the ball washers actually had water in them. Some of the wooden hole markers (which double as trash cans) looked like they were about to fall over and hadn't been maintained in many years. The west course is across the street from the clubhouse (few min cart ride), and they only have two beverage vending machines (cash only) at the turn. The sister course stonehedge is set up the same with a course across the street, but they have a nice snack shack at the turn so you don't have to drive all the way back to the clubhouse.

To sum things up, Gull Lake has (partially) opened a new course this year, and I think they'd have been better served by putting their resources into making the existing courses better, rather than price gouging to pay for the new course. I can only recommend playing if you get a steal of a deal and have all day set aside to wait.

Golf Getaway

This was day 3 of a 3 day trip to Gull Lake Resort. I LOVED the layout but the greens had been plugged and dressed two (2) days before we played it. We were not informed about that condition before we arrived at the course. The putting was very erratic. The resort should have informed us OR given us a reduced rate OR comped lunch at the turn or something ! We paid premium fees for a mediocor experience.

Great track, needs a ranger

We were excited to play this course and drove 90 minutes to come play it. We started and the guy behind the desk indicated that people were not playing fast that day and he was right. After waiting 10 minutes between each shot (it took 2:30 to play 8 holes) we just decided to bag it.

I am hopeful to replay this course and try to get out earlier in the day because it truly is a hidden gem. The course was in immaculate condition and the greens rolled true and were not too fast.

It's too bad we were not able enjoy the day as much as we would have hoped. We are accustomed to play 18 holes in 3:30 to 4:00 hours and a 5:30 to 6:00 round is just not doable for us.

EXCELLENT COURSE!!

Played this course on a sunday afternoon with a good HOT DEAL on Golfnow. We were in the area (kalamazoo,Mi) for a 3 day golf vacation with another couple. Have stayed and played the other gull lake courses (at other times) and was always impressed with the overall course conditions of their other courses. This time was no different...perfect weather and think we played it in a little more than 4 hours..not bad for a weekend in afternoon in the middle of the day. This course is a challenge as it is NARROW!! Greens were in good shape and cut for a moderate speed...not lighting quick...but were also not shaggy slow.... they were nice to putt on. Rough was cut a little high..not a major issue other than finding a ball at times was tough unless you were right on top of it...not a negative..just an observation.Sand traps were decent...only remember being in one all day so not so bad from that perspective. Hope to play this course again when in that area of the state...clubhouse assistants were very pleasant andmade us feel like they appreciated our choosing to play the course

Rained

Even with the weather the course was challenging and in great shape. It is too bad that golfer do not respect the course, by replacing divots and fixing ball marks.

Excellent Course, Guy Getaway

The course itself was in great shape. Lots of length options for all skill levels, interesting layout and greens with contour without being extreme. Tees, fairways, rough, bunkers and greens all in great shape. The main challenge comes from the narrow fairways with overhanging mature trees and lots of doglegs. To score well, you must be driving the ball well and be able to work the ball left and right. Straight drives normally will either be through the fairway or leave longer shots to the green. The rough is not penal if you are off the fairway and finding balls is not difficult, but expect to have to navigate back to the fairway through trees without much chance of reaching the green in regulation.

One warning ... this is a popular guy getaway. The course was alive all day with inebriated yells, whoops and hollers. Not a good choice for couples play ... there were no women in sight. The tight fairways, tipsy golfers and lack of any on-course assistance contributed to painfully slow play on the back 9.

We stayed at the villas which were decent digs, but expect party central.

Bottom line ... a very nice course that is well maintained which is great for your guy getaway. If you are a couple looking for quiet resort golf away from the gentelmen's club crowd, we suggest you look elsewhere.

West Course @ Gull Lake.

This Course was one of 5 run by the same Management Corp. The unusual fact here is, they have 5 different Greens Supers. So every tract has a different niche for course set ups. The East course starts off easy and steps up the challenge as you go. The tip of the century here is, to play target golf. There are only 4 holes that you can "grip it & rip it". Has anyone played a tract where the #1 & #2 handicap holes were par 3's? I didn't think so! The greens were larger than average with major undulations. It's a 2 sleeve day for the average golfer. It's a fun course but, will test your mettle. We will return to play the sister courses. Golf Now got us awesome rates to play on Labor Day with carts.
