Otsego Club

I love playing the Classic. I grew up vacationing in the area and this was the first "up north" course I ever played. Its funny because if this course existed as-is ANYWHERE else in the country, it would be much more popular. Its a great course overshadowed by it's fancier younger brother, the Tribute.

The Classic is a beautiful and challenging layout that winds around the top of property and does get back into the ski hill area at the turn. The conditions are always great with nice diagonal mower lines, clearly defined fringe, green, rough, and fairway. The greens roll true and are always moderately fast. Some of the pin positions can be downright unfair if the green speeds are up..

The course is deceptively challenging with plenty of areas to get into trouble and plenty of holes that play uphill, downhill, and both! Take the opening hole for example, on the card it looks easy. ~450 yard par 5 with no water...but it plays way uphill the whole way and the angle of the tee box and tree shaping force you to either hit a draw or lay off to take the woods out of play. OB left and gnarly shrubbery right make this a challenging start for anyone who may be a bit off their line. This whole course is like that. Deceptively difficult even though on paper it doesn't look that way. The subtle elevation swings and the proximity of lost-ball woods and thickets make the classic a real test and not a typical whack-it-and-find-it resort course.

I love playing here and it's a bargain. For some reason people like to get on here and say negative things about the Classic but the only negative thing I'll say is that I always underestimate it and don't shoot as well as I think I'm going to shoot!!

Number 9 is one of my favorite holes anywhere, a grip and rip reachable par 4 that plays down and up the Otsego Club ski hill. The green is on the same level as the tee but the fairway drops like 50 feet if you hit short and it's all uphill to the green unless you get it all the way there on the fly.. The sidehill and uphill lies, inconvenient trees, and the incredible views make this an absolutely brilliant golf hole.

There are definite downfalls but they don't really take away from the experience. The cart paths should be declared a public health hazard. Horrendous. The course actually has 2 sets of carts at the clubhouse, the old ratty Classic course carts that look like have been used in a demolition derby, and the bougie Tribute carts. While I appreciate that they have two distinct 18's...it makes you feel like you're a second class citizen when you go to play the Classic and they even made me switch carts when I played both courses back to back. Dumb. The whole resort property is spattered with run down buildings that used to be something nice so it seems a little sad when you drive through the parking lot to get over to #10 classic...but it is what it is. Kind of like a time capsule when you explore around the 60s style Bavarian themed buildings.

Okay...wow that's a lot of words. Basically...this course is rough around the edges. Its not luxurious but the course itself is strong. Great layout, great fairways and greens, and sneaky hard. You're gonna play it at some point and say "wow, why haven't I played here lately?"

We played the classic The course is in is fine shape. The front has more scenery than the front. Women have nice advantage on the Red.

Very challenging course for two senior, medium ability golfers. Beautiful course in excellent shape. A pleasure to play.

Greens have been repaired. It’s so much better course now.

Course was in great fall condition. Pace of play excellent. Great layout, but to play it best, you need to know where to place your tee shots to score well.

First time playing The Tribute and was blown away by away by the views and the layout of this course. Tough holes, blind shots, but the condition was great.

You don’t see the clubhouse the whole round and the halfway house was closed on the Friday we were there so if you want drinks or food, get them before you head out.

Was pleasantly surprised as to conditions.,

Nice greens, fairways in good shape-bunkers could use a little work..

Definitely going back..

It had been 30+ years since I’ve played The Classic @ Otsego Resort, and after playing it today, I can’t wait to get back again.

Staff was courteous and helpful. Grounds crew were working on several holes, and had the course in Great shape. Highly recommend!

Greens were in good shape, not fast but moderate. Fairways were watered and green. Some very short holes. Some cart paths either missing or in need of repair. Several buildings on the property in need of repair.

My only complaint is with cart paths on several holes extremely rough of some of the holes. Other then that a nice course

Just a fun and stunningly beautiful layout. Very playable and ambiance to spare. Highly recommend!

Very nice course. The course was very well kept. Fairways and greens were great. Uphill holes were tough. Tons of elevation holes where you can take a picture. Hidden gem. Really enjoyed our round.

Very scenic course hilltop views,Creek views, water runs through many holes. course is long, but doesn’t seem to play long. Was our favorite course of our trip. Will definitely play it again.
