Really stretching the yardage out...
I used to play this course as a kid, and recently revisited it during a trip into the Catskills in July. The course was in pretty rough shape, the greens were pretty hairy. Tee boxes were in really poor shape, and playing from the tips proved to be near impossible on some holes. Tee boxes seemed to be mounds of dirt with some grass grown on them, access was hampered by overgrown brush and tree branches, and were placed on some holes as such that it made playing the hole as originally intended near impossible.
For the money paid to play on a weekend, I would not go back again.
Nice Local Feel to the Course
We decided to do a weekend trip to the Catskills and found the Rainbow Club on a website list of Catskill courses. The website had a pretty view of on island green which is why we picked it to play.
The woman in the pro shop was friendly but the snack area was very dark and not inviting. The carts were older and it just felt like a local muni-course. The island green was disappointing visually (compared to the website photo) but the course was not busy so pace of play was great.
Overall, for $35 with a cart it was a great value and fun but I would not go out of my way to play this course.
