Hole-in-one!!!! Photo submitted by tanong on 04/23/2013
Very poor maintenance of the course.
I Will NOT play this course again (at any price) until they restore the course to something better than an abused MUNICIPAL Course! Very dissatisfied
Etowah Valley South to West
Fairways are coming back . Greens are rough after having been airiated a few weeks ago.
Traps are hard and wet with casual water.
I expected better
Greens are in fairly good shape, but the fairways are dead grass and mud. A lot of downed trees yet to be removed. There are a lot of better options in this atea!
Although it was very wet from days of rain, the greens were in very good shape and rolled really well. Look forward to going back when the course dries out.
Nice Course / Peacefull Mountian Settng
I had an opportunity to play on Etowah Valley's South Course November 23, 2018. The clubhouse sets the mood for a nice relaxing round of golf with its classic and timeless design, and harkens back to a time when golf was the attraction and not palatial clubhouses. You feel right at home, from the first steps in.
A gentleman named, "Rick" greeted me immediately, upon entering the pro shop and provided excellent customer service from setting me up for a round to answering any questions I had about the course. Its always nice when the pro shop staff takes the time to make each guest feel welcomed and valued.
The golf carts were by far the BEST carts, I've used in several years (Clean, quiet and obviously well maintained).
The course itself was playable and in good shape (Considering the time of year), and offered some challenging shot placements.
The surrounding scenery completes the package with its gentle slopping and tree lined fairways.
If you're in the area, a round of golf at The Etowah Valley Golf Club is an experience worth the time.
Good People .. Good Golf ... Great memories !
Poor greens
Greens were not good ,as they had lots of dead patches
I enjoy the course layout here, greens are just alright at this point, fairways are average.
2 out of 3
We started on the North side which was not so great on the fairways and bunkers etc. The South and West sides a different story. Very present and enjoyable course. Few hidden ponds and creeks that may surprise you first time.... Nice club house and the bar. We may go back soon.
Very Nice Relaxing Course
Having played several courses in and around Asheville, this was a pleasant fairly level course - not a "mountain hiking/climbing" adventure. Much more of what I am accustomed to and would consider a traditional course.
Greens arriated
Course was alright just would have been nice to know geeens were just punched. Really wet but that’s bc it rains every day
Etowah Valley
Greens had been aerated that week so greens were rough obviously. Any course staff should advise this has occurred but that is never the case when you arrive to play.
Course is in need of assistance all around.
RIP-OFF
The golf course was just aerated, which no one mentioned when I called.
It also wasn't mentioned that one of the 3 nines {27 hole facility} was closed, which made play slower.
Fairways and ruff were in very poor condition! The greens were ridiculous, as even a 1 or 2 foot putt was difficult. Regardless they charged their highest rate!
So be sure to ask several questions before you venture out!
I want a rain check!!!!!!!

Great course for value
Course is in very good condition at the end of the summer. Highly recommend the course maintenance staff.
Poor conditioning overshadows greens and layout
As a past member whose been playing the track for over 35 years, I have unique perspective of firsthand knowledge of Etowah "in its glory years" prior to the turn of the century. Back then it was "firm and fast" and a " joy to play" for the challenge it presented, but now it is (due to deterioration) sadly "just a shell of itself" . Whereas it was once a truly "championship" course , it is no more due to ownership's inability to fund needed state-of-the-art drainage system to overcome the frequent rains Mother Nature brings to the site.
The strong suit of Etowah remains it's outstanding (mostly large) greens and varied hole layout over its three 9 hole tracks. But it has gotten to the point where "it's no fun anymore" to have to endure the generally "swampy " conditions of the place. To its credit, in recent years many (of the overabundant) trees have been removed and the glorious greens have been maintained. On the flip side, new unplayable "wet" areas seem to regularly appear and a "soggy lie" has become the norm and the grounds crew appears "not to have a clue" on how to maintain sand traps.
Etowah was once great, but now not a place to be recommended and to a golf purist that seems a shame. But no amount of wishful thinking will bring Etowah "back", only a new irrigation and drainage system will "do he trick" and I'll "believe it when I see it".
The course was not in very good shape. The tee boxes were just patchy grass. The rough was unplayable even when you could find your ball. The fairways looked like the had not been cut in awhile. I know they have had a lot of rain in the area and I hope the get the course back under control. I think they should at least let folks know what kind of shape the golf course is in. I drove for an hour and bragged to my buddies how great the place was.
Good Greens; Poor Course Conditions
The starter put us off the West for pay of the West/North combination of courses. The foursome in front of us was so slow that it took over 5 hours to complete the round. Tis seems to be common for Etowah now. We played a few months ago and it took almost 3 hours to play just the West and we quit and went home. We played at 2:30 pm and expected to be ther late enough to play at a moderate pace.
The Greens were in very good shape, especially on the North Course. The West were good but had so many ball marks that they were not as consistant as the North. I was surprised to find that the fairways had not been cut and were very long. They were not wet, so I was surprised. They have done a lot of work to clean up the course but have not kept up course maintenance.
I can't recommend because the pace is just too slow to be able to enjoy the round.
Good track, Great value
Always enjoy this course. Played South 9 and the North which is a mountain 9 that can be intimidating the first time you play it, but once you are familiar with the layout and can play with a strategy it is very enjoyable
great day to play golf
Great place to play and price was great...fairway good shape green ok pace good.
