Mount Mitchell Golf Club
About Mount Mitchell Golf Club
The Mount Mitchell Golf Club sits at the base of Mount Mitchell an hour from Asheville and minutes from the famed Blue Ridge Parkway. Despite its mountain setting, the course itself is flat with the South Toe River running through it. This river is ideal for fisherman looking to hook brown and rainbow trout. Golfers can rent two- and three-bedroom townhomes on the 18th fairway, private homes throughout the community and one-, two- and three-bedroom fairway villas on the course. Hawtree's Pub provides food and drinks for all.Facts

Awesome mountain course!
First time at Mt Mitchell and it did not disappoint! Really fun layout with some good elevation changes and a couple blind shots to keep you on your toes. I was paired up with a couple locals that were great tour guides. Even with the previous rain and cart path only rule, the course still played well and pace of play wasn’t bad either. Will gladly go back and play again when I’m in town!
A Golfer’s Delight
Mt. Mitchell Golf Club is my favorite course in the Asheville area. The course is challenging, but enjoyable, particularly the back nine. Unsurpassed views, well maintained, very friendly staff.
Tons of potential but not worth the money
I hate to leave poor reviews as most reviews left are typically from bad experiences but I feel obligated. The golf course was not in good condition, granted we had a decent amount of rain that week you can tell that the course has poor drainage. The tees, fairways and greens were all on the shaggy side and very soft. The greens were extremely soft and you could tell they were not healthy and some TLC is needed. I would not recommend playing for the price and the drive that most will make.
On a positive note the staff was extremely friendly and the views around the course are magnificent. The back 9 has a ton of potential
Great course in the mountains
Would I come back here? Absolutely. Am I dying to get back here already? Not at all. Course is superb for the location, only problem I had was their greens. Looked nice but impossible to roll at an average rate. Had to kill it to get it to the hole. Nonetheless it was a good time and the course sets up fairly well
Early season conditions
Beautiful environment as always but the course is not at full strength. Bunkers mostly unplayable and greens recently top dressed so slow. Held shots well tho. Fairways and tees are good. Staff was great and pace of play also good. Will go back in a month or two.
Great course!
Great course! Greens were a bit slow but the course had just recently opened up.
Fantastic Course
Love this course. Can score well but still challenging. With new ownership letting carts on the course as of now, my only complaint is gone now!
One of My Favorites
Love this course. Can score well while still being challenging. And under new ownership, my one complaint of always cart path only is gone, so I appreciate that! Will be back soon!
Exciting Changes!
Played on opening day and this season is already shaping up to be a good one. The new ownership has an attention to detail that I’m excited to see pay off! Being allowed to drive on the course was a game changer. Sped up the pace of play so much and made my round so much more enjoyable. Excited to see what this new team brings to the table, the change in the energy was apparent as soon as you pulled in the parking lot. Not to mention conditions were better than they’ve been in years. I’ll be back soon!

First timer
Our first golf experience at Mt. Mitchell was wonderful from start to finish. We teed off a little after noon with the sun shining, the creek sparkling, and the beautiful mountains in the background. Every hole was extremely scenic. I am not a very talented golfer, so I was pleased to feel challenged yet not overwhelmed by the distances of the fairways or the difficulty of the greens. We will definitely play at Mt. Mitchell again!
disappointed
this place is a cow pasture. the fairways are in bad shape and looks like they have not been mowed in a few days. there is zero sand in the bunkers and there is also grass growing in them. they need to start a sanding policy on the fairways and the greens. the greens are super slow and soggy and in bad shape. the rough is around 3 inches or more.. they have a strict cart path only policy and do not allow push cart also have to stay on the cart path.
i would not go here even if there was no cost to play
Mt Mitchell at the crossroads
I have played this once great mountain course 20 times over the past 35 years. I am very concerned about it's future after my July 2020 round. Realizing CoVid has made everything difficult for everyone it can't explain the amount of crabgrass in the fairways, bare spots on every green, and overall unkept look that the course currently has. This is truly a visually spectacular location. For the first time in my memory the condition of the golf course actually detracts from the natural surroundings.
ya just played it it was disappointing at best
I would give it another shot next year. Its usually not like this but I was up there around the time you posted and it was wsy worse than usual. The sand is usually great (covid is preventing sand rakes so they advise you to remove the ball from the bunker) and the greens are always slow because the elevation causes excess moisture. Typically its better to play later in the day so it has time to dry up a bit.
