Salishan Delivered, Again

I was able to break away for a middle of the week round of golf at Salishan. Pace of play on the front nine was challenging and slow, but it picked up after the turn. The staff is awesome.

Hole 15 with view of crashing waves

Stunning day at the coast. Delighted to see the course so well groomed. Staff clearly putting in the extra hours to get the grass just right. Greens and fairways well tended. This links style course rewards accuracy. Stunning ocean views from the back 9.

Too pricy considering time of year

The greens were rough due to recently being punched. We were disappointed the course was not partially along side the ocean, and we could only see the ocean from one elevated tee. For western Oregon in April the green fees are high.

The course has the layout to be one of the top courses in the state. Let alone on the coast. Keep the price reasonable then the wind won’t be the negative factor to not play. Course conditions must improve. Green were fast but multi colored. You could have a courtesy cart on 15 which would make golfers happy.

Wet and Windy

I expected a challenge and Salishan Golf Course did not disappoint. It was extremely wet in places which must be anticipated this time of year. I will be back once the course dries out.

Coastal Golf At It's Best!

Had a great round. The course was in nice shape after lots of rain. I would highly recommend this golf experience! You are either in the fir trees or next to the Bay or ocean up and down some fairly steep hills. Lots of fun for golfers of all skill levels.

Great course and experience

It was a nice course and the proshop staff were great. The only negative was the pub was closed due to Covid-19.

A bit wet

A Bit wetter than Expected considering it is a seaside course. Thought sand base would allow better drainage. With no roll, course played long. Greens nice considering the wetness. One set of ramps to back tee very slick. Needed warning.

Otherwise great time. Very few players, very pleasant

Hit 'em straight of this up and down course can get tough...

Salishan was a morning get away for me while my wife enjoyed some rest and the beach, I didn't expect anything amazing (it was the closest course with a decent rating so I just headed that way), but was delighted by this relatively hidden gem.

It was wet and probably always or at least mostly is, I'd pack your golf (or some waterproof) shoes to enjoy the day more, but the overall course conditions were pretty good. Some of the tee boxes were a little choppy, but the fairways and greens were in great shape and well maintained.

As mentioned above, Shalishan offers a variety of ways to lose balls, especially if you are wayward off the tee, but if you are hitting straight is gettable... I happened to shoot incredibly well (for me) during my round and carded a 74 from the back.

Speaking of playing from the back... if you're shooting from the tips you'll have to find and follow a trail that eventually leads across a street and into what appears to be someone's back yard (don't worry, its not, it just seems that way). From back there you are firing between trees to what seems like a really small target... it does open up though so feel free to grip it and rip it!

I thought the toughest hole was a long par three (#6) with 2/3s of the green (at least) blind because of trees along the left hand side. I didn't even challenge it and "laid up" to the right of the hole and played from there. I managed to get up and down for par which was the best score in my group (everyone else fired at the green with two people losing a ball).

Salishan isn't heavily bunkered and relies on angles and elevation changes for defense, I can see where these would be more than adequate defenses if you weren't shooting well, one of my playing partners has a very different view of the course than I do based on number of balls left behind.

For a coastal course there aren't many ocean views on the course and there are a surprising number of holes with significant elevation changes... although there is a run of rather benign holes starting the back nine that are almost completely flat before you get back into the hills, but it's probably the least link'ish course I've played on the coast.

I thought the service levels at the clubhouse were great (pro tip: the clubhouse can be a little hard to find the first time you go... it's *allllll* the way at the end of the parking lot, when you enter just head all the way to the back and you'll be good.

This wound up being a far better and more challenging course than I expected and I'd absolutely make it a part of a coast trip now (rather than just a get away day quickie)... I certainly recommend giving it a while if you find yourself in the area.

Best course in the area, excellent greens

Outside of Bandon, there are not many choices for golf along the coast of Oregon. Salishan is one of the few options for top notch golf in the central coast region. Course is very tough, requiring you to hit the ball both straight and far. The distance is deceiving as 380 yard par 4's into the wind can require 2 solid wood shots to get home. Three of the par 3's are also very long. Some nice scenic holes along the bay and glimpses of the ocean. Played it twice this week. While it was sloppy wet the first time (it rained a lot the night before), by the day after the course had dried out considerably. While it's nothing close to Bandon, it's by far the best option in the area.

Friendly Staff & Great Course Conditions!

For late November golf on the Oregon Coast, I was extremely impressed with the condition of this course, as well as how well the course drained! I was greeting by Frank in the Pro Shop and he took great care of our group. We felt warm, welcome, and safe with the Covid pandemic. The precautions they took were first-class! After the round, the cart boys cleaned our clubs and even helped unload our bags into our trunk. This was truly an outstanding experience and we will be back again very soon! Thanks Salishan!
