Expensive but great
I wanted to play a top 100 public course and this was a gem. The length was perfect for me as a 200 yard hitter at most. The layout and conditions were superb, and the presentation was beautiful. Not a cheap course, but I'd sure play it again. Great for seniors.
Great course for longer hitters
This was a course with great design and conditions, challenging layout, but for shorter hitters like me (200 yd drive) many holes were simply too long for par 4. There was not a tee option to play @ 6000 yards. This was a bit frustrating, but still an enjoyable day.
The best
I have been playing golf in Myrtle Beach every year for the last 11 years with a group and I have to say that this golf course is the best golf course in Myrtle Beach followed very closed by the second place private golf course Dunes Golf and Beach Club.
When you get to the property you drive along holes 1 and 10 and between a line of beautiful oaks trees.
The golf course is always in top shape. Heading off to the back nine there is a man in an old chowder shed giving complementary delicious fish soup. That's a wonderful detail. You will love this place.
Over-rated
Course is EXTREMELY over-rated. It's nice, but having played about 80 courses in the Grand Strand I can easily think of at least a dozen I'd rather play again than this. Seriously - no driving range to warm up? OK, the low-country chowder was nice (but not the best - Pine Lakes is better) and some holes were nice, but this course is NOT "memorable"! On the south strand I'd rather play Pawleys or Heritage - and True Blue. And you finish the front 9 on an "excuse me?" par-3 that seems to have been added to fit the driveway? NO!!
Best low country course in myrtle beach
This course had some of the most scenic low country views of any course I have played in MB. This is definitely the Cadillac of low country courses. Caledonia has a tee box for every skill level, the course doesn't play long from the whites so I was hesitant to play from them however the greens are small and guarded and good second shots are a must so I am glad I did not play from the blues. This is the best course I have played in the myrtle beach area.
A great value
I find it interesting reading reviews of golf courses. It is apparent that most golfers don't know a thing about reviewing a golf course. Founders Club has done an outstanding job utilizing the natural terrain. Much like Pinehurst #2, they designed the course using natural waist area instead of trying to make everything green. I'm sure their water bill/water waist has gone down significantly. I wish other courses will follow their lead and start considering the environment ahead of trying to make a piece of land look like something it should'nt. Anyway, great layout, good greens, fast play and an incredibly friendly staff make Founders a great value!
One of the Grand Strand's best
I had forgotten how good Caledonia was until I got to play it again this October. First off, Mike Strantz was a great architect and this is one of his finest. Secondly, conditioning here is almost Augusta-like. Pure white bunkers, flawless turf conditions and one well-designed hole after another make this one of the most enjoyable courses in the country. Terrific 18th hole and clubhouse.
Great Course, proud of it!
I truly love this course, I just wish it didn't cost over 100 to play it, even in the off season.
Beautiful course in wonderful condition. I will definitely play here again
I hosted my father as an early birthday present to him- he has always talked about playing Caledonia but would never spend the money. This course lived up to and exceeded our expectations. Conditioning was excellent, staff were all very friendly and helpful. The course is very challenging if you're in the wrong position, greens are pristine. We will be back, for sure.
Wow! What an amazing course and excellent condition!
Played Caledonia 6/7/2013. What an amazing course! During a period when every other course we played were sub par and struggling, Caledonia was in superb condition! The attention to detail on the course is stupendous. Every flowerbed, tee box and green were amazingly manicured. This course is definitely worth the money! Thanks to the ground and club staff; you made a our experience an unforgeable one!!
Best golf experiance ever
yes, this course is expensive and I could not afford to play it on a regular basis, but it was the best golf experience of my life and worth every penny. Every hole is interesting and a challenge and the course conditions were great.
Wonderful and scenic course but expensive
We golfed here in 2010 and were so impressed that we needed to golf it again this season. The $150 fees were expensive, but we deemed it worth it since it was so beautifully laid out and maintained. In 2010 we had ample time to play, but moved along well. In 2013 the tee times were spaced much closer together and we waited on each hole. To the credit of the rangers, they tried to move slower players along but the round was still in excess of 5 hours. We're glad we went back, but it is not worth $150 (or more) when the play is this slow. But in the end it is one of the more beautiful courses we have played around the country.
Great Course
Really Nice, great layout, good Challenge of golf, but fair for all handicappers with all the tee offerings.
The greens are the best you will ever play. Even in November and December
This course has it all great greens, and fairways, the tees were over seeded with rye just coming in but was still great. Also a real good practice facility. Plus $2 draft beers at the Pub.
True Blue Review
Enjoyable course. Generous fairways with bailout areas where trouble exists. Greens are large with dramatic features.
Very nice, but just once, pricey
Caledonia is a course that everyone should play once. It lives up to the hype. But given the calibre and price of other courses in Myrtle, I wouldn't pay $150+ more than once. That's a bit much when you can play great courses for under $100 in the area.
Great course!
I've heard a lot about True Blue from friends, and after playing Caledonia a few times, finally played. Didn't disappoint - lots of challenging holes and we played fast (in August). Just watch for hitting your balls in the water - we saw a few crocs along the way.
Myrtle Beach's Best
Great course, nice staff, always in terrific condition
This is Caledonia....
