La Cantera Resort

The driving range was closed due to it being a little muddy. It seemed more like an excuse then an actual problem. They didn't want to be inconvenienced.

Course was in good shape for the most part. 17's green was pretty burnt out however. Overall it's a great corse but a little pricey IMO.

Great Shape

Well, the 2 1/2" of rain put this classic hill country style track in great shape. A former Texas Open site. This track never disappoints. Great twilight specials after 2 right now.

LaCantera Golf Course Resort

Overall the golf course was really good the only problem was with the ranger when he asked us to pick it up and there was 1 person playing infront and 1 person playing behind our foursome. Not really ideal to play faster than 1 person but besides that the golf course was great.

One of the Best in San Antonio

The Resort Course is excellent with varied terrain typical of the famed Texas hill country.. Course is in good shape although like all San Antonio courses could use a good rain. Greens are hard and fast with some hard to read puts. Wooded canyons and rough areas require reasonable accuracy but fairways are spacious and greens fairly large.

Golf staff were pleasant and helpful, you feel like a welcome guest.

Beautiful course

Visiting San Antonio, we wanted to play golf at least twice while we were here. Luckily, we chose this course!! Views are breathtaking, holes are extremely challenging, and staff couldn't be friendlier. Sister course (Arnold Palmer Course apparently just as nice if not even a little prettier but more challenging). Being a course in the hillside country, would recommend some experience in golf. Recommend highly.

A must Play

Great course, friendly staff
The staff went out of their way to help us find a near by steak place. They even printed us directions so we would find the place.
One word of caution about Troon Golf and Golf Now be advised: I expect a certain level of professionalism and course condition from Troon Golf and Golf Now and I am still boiling about play at Tapatio (a Troon course in Boerne) early in the week. You can not believe what you read. Tapatio was a dump and should never be listed on Golf Now. You work all year to go on vacation and you get the wool pulled over your eyes and the staff just didn't seem to care.

Nice course

Course was in good condition considering the drought. 17 green is in terrible shape, I understand they had some difficulties with the irrigation there, but they could've moved the pin placement to a better spot. I expect to pay more for drinks at a course like this, but $5.25 for a can of beer is just stupid. I also would have expected some sort of security to patrol the parking lot and keep an eye on people's stuff, our truck was broken into and some nice belongings were stolen.

La Cantera

We got it a $56 Dls. but it is not worth it paying full price. It is easy course not very challenging and greens fairly ok.

Beautiful Course

I went here to take my brother on a great golf outing before he had to jump on a plane to Cleveland, OH later that afternoon. I'm not an avid golfer (once a month...maybe), but this was wide open and forgiving course that was great to play on. My brother enjoyed himself on our outing and I'm sure, when he returns, we may return.

Extremely disappointed

The round started off fairly good. The fairways were manicured and the greens good. However, as the round progressed, the grass on the fairways began to disappear and the greens were not mowed and they were very bumpy. The last 4-5 holes were the worst. The greens were brown and no grass and very then even more bumpy. I spent a significant amount of my monthly golf budget to play this former PGA course and was VERY, VERY disappointed in the overall condition of this RESORT golf course. I do not believe I will play this course again - especially at the price they want.

Roller coasters, wind and a Fun Ride

Beautiful but windy day makes many of the elevated tee boxes testers. Course condition great all but 17th green which was unlike all the others and plagued with some damaging disease. Practice facilities are first rate so come early. Enjoy the screams from the nearby roller coaster as you tee off on #7 as you scream too as the wind on that tee shot hits your ball.:)

Disappointed

Very slow play, especially for a resort course. Had to wait to tee on the first nine due to slow playing ladies foursome in a tournament. Marshalls told us that they would speed them up, but never did. By ninth hole we had three groups waiting on the tee.
I expect this on a muni, but not a high price resort.
I will not go back.

A fun and generous course to play

This was a good course. We played the Palmer course on Mon. and Wed. Then we played this course on Friday. The course was in great shape considering the time of year when most courses are in the dormant stage. It has lots of room on either side of the fairways and the greens roll true. What you see is what it is. Now that we have moved to Texas, I will play this course often.

About What I expected

Played Feb 18, 2014 on a mild day. Fairways and rough was dormant but greens had some recent new growth (however they did not putt particularly smooth or ture....but this is what you get this time of year I suppose).

Typical resort type atmosphere with bag boys and valets with their hands out, although everyone was friendly.

Course is surprisingly hilly and would be a bear to walk. Played the gold tees (6400 yeards) but it played shorter with many elevated tees and the fairways running fast.

Overall a good experience given I only paid $56 for the green fee. Would have been disappointed had I paid significantly more.

Home of the Texas Open (1995-2009)

The course offers a nice up and down ride with just a few turns here and there. I think it's safe to say there are good sized bunkers around every green but not really any water to worry about. Most creeks will be dry but you will have a couple of carries to make. I was pleased with the condition of the winter fairway grass when I played in January. I can only imagine how nice it must be when the weather turns warmer and everything comes into bloom. Greens had a nice mixture of undulation and rolled very true. However, during our outing we found them very fast; a winter situation perhaps. The staff were all very courteous and readily available. Remember, this is not just a golf course -- it's part of a resort. It's certainly on the high side price wise. But if you're considering it, then you can obviously afford it and/or are looking to treat yourself. I'd certainly like to make a long weekend of it, play both courses, and stay at the resort.
