La Cantera Golf Club

About
La Cantera Golf Club opened in 1995, when it also hosted one of the oldest PGA Tour events, the Texas Open. It is no wonder the spot was chosen, with its numerous natural water features, mature oaks, and limestone rock outcroppings it provides the perfect terrain for a challenging round. There are also 75 white sand bunkers strategically placed throughout the golf course. In combination with the spectacular views provided by the course’s elevation changes, the course has quickly gained favor as one of the best public-access golf courses in the country.

Great Course
La Cantera Resort has always been one of my favorite courses in San Antonio, always in great shape tee to green, the attention you get form the bag drop, the starter, the mid course snack bar, the club cleaning at the end of your round, everything is top notch, worth every penny.
Slow Slow Slow Greens and Pace
The greens are in really bad shape. Really slow. You have to really wack it to both up hill and down! Pace was also somewhat of a problem.
Kind of like a nice muni with average greens. I would be ok if it was around $50 USD. But not $160 for sure.
If the greens were fixed up I would say $100 is a fair price.
La Cantera
Amazing, just an overall wonderful experience, totally recommend.
Will be back very soon.
better grass at practice area
upon arrival the entire practice green area had a significant lack of turf to hit off of. having an attendant move the practice area back to new grass was needed. if your going to have guests practice off of the grass please make sure there is grass to hit off of.

Thank you for the feedback. We hope you will come back in the future.
Great course
The layout of the course is just beautiful. The greens were WAY TOO slow. It was a real struggle getting the ball to the hole and reading the greens. I wild love to still play the course again and hopefully the make the greens a little more fair with cutting three grass lower. The rest of the course and the staff were absolutely fantastic!
All in One Place
La Cantera is a venue that has it all. The course is excellent and a challenge for any golfer. The views are beautiful. The staff is first class, and the restaurants at the facility are four star.

Thank you for playing and we are glad you had a great time. Come back soon.
Best Course We Played in San Antonio
We played four courses in San Antonio on a golf trip and this was the best of the bunch. The price was also the steepest by a long shot. The course is truly a great layout and was in the best shape of the courses we played on the trip.
The day we played was really, really windy, so the course played very tough. Even in the difficult conditions, we felt like there was room off the tee and the areas around the green. The greens had been sanded sometime in the past few weeks, so they were slow.
I hate when people spend most of their review saying how good or bad the staff was because the golf course is far more important. In this case though, I think the staff deserves a shoutout. They were super friendly from start to finish and they added to the experience.
TPC was closed down for the Texas Open while we were here, so I can't compare to those tracks, but La Cantera is very nice and you will enjoy yourself.

Thank you for choosing La Cantera for your San Antonio trip. We hope to see you again in the future.
The greens had just been too dressed and were slow.
Will be back
Only complaint was hot dog buns were really dry. Everything was 5 star.
The Marshalls and starter were extremely helpful.

Thank you for playing and for providing the feedback.
Spectacular
Pro shop staff most helpful. Course in excellent shape. Rate of play great. Would love to play again if ever in this area.

Thank you and hope you get back to this area again soon.
Fun and Fair
Course was fun and fair with challenging elevation changes and side slopes. First class practice area with new Callaway balls. Staff was friendly and well trained. Greens were mid sized with challenging undulations. Smooth and well maintained. Fairways for the most part were full and firm with just a few small areas were standing water had damaged the grass. 5 tee boxes available so pick your length. The rough was really not an issue unless you were way off then watch out for the rattle snakes! Bunkers were perfect with clean uniform sand. Only improvement would be fringe areas around most of the greens were getting a little sparse making finesse chip shots difficult. I would play here again.

Thank you for playing La Cantera.
Course is laid out great.
The course has not recovered from the greens dying off in large spots. Not all greens suffered. Around the greens suffered also though. Hopefully they will recover soon. Staff are great and friendly. I would have played another course if I would have known that they had problems with their greens.

Thank you for playing and providing the feedback. We did have a few areas on several greens on the back nine with winter damage. We will be restoring those areas in the near future, and look forward to them being on the level with the rest of the golf course conditions.
Not Worth the Money
I was extremely excited to play this course when visiting San Antonio, TX during February 2023. I have played other courses like TPC facilities and PGA National. This course simply does not compare to the others. Fairways and greens were painted green in more than just a few areas (literally on every hole) and the greens were really slow. For a facility that closed one course (Palmer) to keep the other course (Resort) up to the standards of Tour expectations (their words, not mine), it is no wonder why this isn't a stop for the professionals any longer. A fair price for this course would be approximately $80.
Thank you for playing and we hope you come back soon.
