Saturday round near the end of June 2020
Previous reviews seem unduly harsh. Fairways were renovated in the past couple of years. Their condition seemed excellent, Greens were also very good. I recommend the course.
Beautiful course in great shape
This course plays long but it is in tremendous shape.
Good Course - quality & difficultly
Almost always in good shape. Good carts. Can be slow play, but will always pick up a morning time here
Great course, couple improvements
Overall, love it. The tee boxes and the sand traps need help.
********CAREFUL ********
This course offers an exceptional experience which I've played multiple times. However, be careful booking this late in the day. There was a tournament being played before my round and carts were a very scarce commodity. Consequently, the tee time that I paid for at 424pm turned into well after 5 before going to the 1st tee, and I didn't get to finish my round.
C'mon Falconhead-- REALLY?!?!? You guys are better than this.
A good but difficult round
It has been a few years since I have played this course but I would say that the course is in excellent shape.
I wish my game had been... with the hills and the grain of the grass it was difficult to read the subtle breaks.

One disappointment was the driving range
* the practice balls are in terrible shape and the do not even wash the balls - and $15 for this quality?
* hitting off of matts to prepare for this course or any course is just wrong.
Treat to play!
Challenging course from the longer tees will delight the low handicappers, yet fair and somewhat forgiving for the higher handicappers from the Whites & Reds. Excellent greens that hold nicely and roll about an 8. Wide fairways and good undulation tee to green. Tee boxes are perfect! Everybody will enjoy this course!
What a Start
Falconhead is a beautiful challenging course that is typically a joy to play. The only complaint I've ever had is maybe an over attentive marshal or two. It's more than understandable during this time that everything is not functioning perfectly, but it was not worth it in the long run and I would not recommend this course right now.
The starter was blatantly rude, disrespectful, and made a simple process stressful to the point of not wanting to play. He basically berated my invited playing partner for not knowing his exact tee time after he (the starter) had forgotten who we were. While waiting for our 4th, he constantly asked and condemned us for where he was when it wasn't even our designated time to tee off yet.
At this time the course has restrictions in place understandably to make it safe to play. We found out on the first tee box that there is no markers indicating where to tee off. Not a big deal, I really don't know how this makes everything safer and it would have been good to know so we could decide which one of the 7 tee boxes we'd use and try to locate each hole. After finally finding some sort of comfort and rhythm in the round a marshal approached us on the course asking why we weren't adhering to the cart path only rules. For one we were not told much of anything besides that we were an inconvenience by the starter. And two every group around us was all over the place. And three everything was dry with no indication that there was a need. We of course began following the cart path only rules (we would have walked our round if we knew before hand it was cart path only).
We tried to carry on and enjoy our round and brush these inconvenient happenings off. We found our group one of the few adhering to the cart path only rules as probably no one knew. We were hit into on multiple occasions as the group behind us was not and was waiting on us. We never saw the marshal again after the 5th hole.
The conditions were average at best as the greens were overgrown, unkempt, and unrolled. It will be awhile before I try Falconhead again, which is a shame because it is a great track.
Good Course
Good course. But overpriced. I play it once in awhile, on a golf Now Hot Deal, just as a change of pace.
Nice course
Course offers a diverse Hill Country layout. I appreciated a choice in multiple tee boxes; it was extremely windy today, so played from white tees. Lots of challenging ups and downs. Fairways in good shape, although not as plush as I would have hoped. Greens were also in good shape, rolled well, with minimal undulation - all in all, fair. As an aside, driving range and practice area was very good. I look forward to playing there again.
Excellent course
Great course from tee to green. For having the issues we are facing today, this is an excellent golf course. The staff is very helpful and accommodating. Can’t wait to play it again!
Would recommend this course to everyone.
Lady Golfer
Had a great time. Hard course but I keep challenging myself by going back again and again. Some of the bunkers definitely need more sand but overall course is in good shape considering it's only March. Clubhouse staff are great, always friendly and professional. Good price on Golf Now for a weekday. Love using Golf Now for deals.
Great layout..average conditions and staff
Visiting Austin and played this course based on reviews. Course conditions are equivalent to any muni. My wife and I had to carry our own bags in even though there were 3 old guys as staff members. They basically just looked at us carry the bags. After the round, we had to clean and carry our own clubs. The layout was great. Homes are way too close to course. Greens were bumpy.
Totally agree that past reviews are somewhat cruel. Great fairways, good greens, lots of renovations going on. Friendly and with a great membership, Live Oak is a solid 4!
