About Moody Gardens

Moody Gardens is a large resort and attraction area with a hotel, conference center and 18 holes of golf in the coastal town of Galveston, Texas. It is well known for its three pyramids home to an aquarium and rain forest attractions. It has not only an onsite waterpark but is next to Schlitterbahn as well. There are six dining concepts, as well as a spa and fitness center. It's within easy access to historic downtown Galveston, Pleasure Pier and the beaches. The golf course originally opened in 1989 but was totally redesigned by Peter Jacobsen and Jim Hardy in 2008. This watery layout features scenic views of the gulf, bridges and bayous, and the back nine plays alongside the small Galveston airport. The course is links-inspired with gulf breezes and wall-to-wall paspalum turf. Historic Galveston is less than an hour's drive from downtown Houston, making Moody Gardens a popular day trip destination as well as for weekend vacation getaways.

Great conditions after a rain storm

Played here on our anniversary but our tee time got pushed due to a 3 hr rain storm. I was thinking we needed to get a raincheck; practice greens were completely flooded, but after the rain stopped, those greens plus the fairways started draining FAST. I've never seen a course drain this quickly after that heavy of rain fall. It was still cart path (obviously) but still very playable. The grille is stocked with a full bar and food reviews didn't lie but options were limited. Only thing available were breakfast tacos, which were delicious!

Pros - Great conditions throughout, drains well after rain, fast pace, cool views of the Moody Garden's Pyramids and attractions inside

Cons - Tight fairways with lots of hazards, food options were limited, pricey for a weekday tee time

Was pleased to see they are working hard to improve course conditions! Fairways were very good, bunkers much improved. Greens recently aerated, so slow, but gotta do it. Good value!

Great, even with punched greens.

The course is magnificent. Love to take on the challenge, admire the views, cuss at the wind.

Putting was...well, not really putting. Greens had been recently aerated and were bumpy and sandy (I knew when I booked the round).

And it was still fun.
