About Sonesta Bee Cave
The Sonesta Bee Cave is located 20 minutes west off Austin off Highway 71 in the Hill Country Galleria, home to a collection of shops, bars and restaurants. There is no golf course onsite but there is shuttle service to the nearby Lakeway golf courses, including public Falconhead Golf Club, and the hotel does have some limited access to the private courses at the Clubs of Lakeway. The Sonesta Bee Cave features a large, outdoor courtyard pool, 10,000 square feet of meeting space and a 5,300 square foot ballroom. Lake Travis is minutes away where a marina can be accessed, and world-famous Hamilton Pool is also a short drive away. A highlight of the Sonesta Bee Cave is not only the galleria shops and restaurants but the hotel's own rooftop Meridian 98, which features cocktails and specialty plates in a lively setting that hosts live music.Facts

Great golf course with poorly managed staff
This was my 3rd time playing this golf course. I must say its one of the best maintained courses in central Texas. It's too bad that each experience with pro shop, snack bar and starter has been aweful. Pro shop attendant ignores you standing in line, the girl at snack bar acts like you are ruining her day when you order a sandwich and the starter is not friendly at all. I would never be interested in a membership in a club where their is no hospitality taking place!
Like the changes made to switch holes 1 and 10
Would certainly play here more often if prices was in $40.00 ranges. We payed $69.00 which I thought was a little high.
Practice facilities and course conditions way down
I have played Falconhead the last 5 or 6 times I have visited Austin, and on each occasion I went home and bragged to my buddies about what a great facility it is. But when I visited Falconhead this past July, things were quite different. First, the practice facilities. There was almost no grass on the driving range, and they had allowed the putting green to bake out to the point where it was in terrible shape. I know it gets hot in Texas in the summertime, but that putting green looked like it had just been let go. Texas golf courses require a lot of water in the summertime, and it was obvious that not enough water had been used, and the maintenance of the putting green had dwindled to next to nothing. The course itself was very dry, but the greens on the course were better than the putting green. I hope the staff will take a look at these comments, because I really like Falconhead, but I won't continue to return there if the conditions don't improve tremendously.
Mishandled groups teeing off lead to a frustrating day.
I was in a group of 4 that was on time teeing off. A group of 2 was 10 minutes late and went off before us. Another group was ahead of them. in a 5 minute span at least 8 golfers teed off on 1. It took us almost an hour to get through the first 4 holes. While we were waiting on for the green, golfers behind us were waiting to tee off. Then one of the groups left creating a gap in front of us. The marshall was extremely rude coming by to tell use to 'Hurry Up'. He didn't realize we had been waiting on people all day.
I have been here before and have considered it one of the best in Austin. Hopefully my experience will improve next time.
Thoroughly enjoyed playing there
Coming from flat Houston, it was nice to get the hill country feel in Austin. Didn't know anything about the course when I booked it and did based on reviews from others. I was glad I picked it. Although the greens were still recovering from recent aerification, I imagine they would be pretty good when fully back. The rest of the course was in pretty good condition and provided plenty of challenge. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, and I would absolutely play there again!!
Great course
Great layout, greens were just aerated but still in great shape...super friendly staff
Great course
Great conditions. Friendly staff. Will return again!
ABSOLUTLEY AWFUL EXPERIENCE
My buddy and I play a course in the area every couple of weeks, and this, BY FAR, was the worst experience either of us have had on any course.
We booked the tee time Friday, to tee off Saturday morning at 10:15. Apparently, Falconhead scheduled a tourney that afternoon and needed the course cleared through hole 14 by 1230. For those of you keeping score at home, that's about 10 minutes a hole, for a foursome, on a Saturday! Unbelievable. This was not brought to our attention prior to booking, at check in, nor at the first tee.
The course marshal badgered us from holes 3 through 11, and encouraged us to completely skip the twelfth hole in order to accommodate the Lake Travis High School Football Team. We had to begin holes 13 and 14 from the 150 yard marker. When we asked for a rain check and offered to come back and play another day, the marshal got testy and demanded we abide by their request. Not a great way to treat your paying customers out to ENJOY their Saturday on the course.
You had the chance to make this right Falconhead. You booked the tee time, you should HONOR it. It is not the responsibility of your customers to accommodate your tournament. You got greedy, plain and simple, and lost four customers. Not to mention, I will share this with ANYONE AND EVERYONE that considers playing your course in the future.
Great course
Challenging course, greens have great speed. Overall a good course A+
Almost, but not quite
Greens are on the edge of poor. They were froggy and slow and several had large areas that were unplayable. Fairways and tee boxes, for the most part, are fine. The second hole might be the toughest 4 par in town. Eight is the signature hole and is certainly unique and picturesque. However, they have stuggled with this green for a couple of years now. The entire left side and back of the green are burnt out.
Eighteen is a tough finishing hole. All in all, above average for a daily fee course. Avoid it on weekends, unless you enjoy spending over five hours to complete an eighteen hole round.
course is much improved EXCEPT for the greens
If Falconhead made their putting greens their top priority, this would be one of the best courses in Central Texas. The fairways, bunkers and rough are in terrific shape. Alas, the greens were poorly maintained years ago, and not much has changed. A great layout.
Enjoyable Hill Country course
Even though they had just aerated the greens the course was in good shape and very enjoyable. It can be challenging if you pick the longer tees, so I would recommend moving up one to better enjoy your round and keep the pace of play.
Solid Austin course w/ some of the best greens in Austin
This is an all around solid course with a mix of holes. If you get in under $60, it's likely worth it. While the course clearly needs some fixes (clearly having trouble figuring out how to get grass to grow on the more heavily trafficed parts of the course, it is overall very well manicured. The first couple times I've out there, I've though the greens rolled pure and were nice and quick. The last time I played, it was clear the greens were suffering in the Austin heat and didn't have much grass on them. Also, it's worth noting that the #1 and #2 handicap holes are such because they are likely way too long. Both are over 450 yards, uphill into the predominant wind. Overall a solid course - likely more fun played a set of tees ahead of where you'd normally play.
Very good public course
This course is always one of the more expensive public courses in Austin, but after playing it this past weekend, it seems as if they are putting the money to good use. Staff was very friendly, great food and drinks, and the course was very good. For being the middle of August in Texas, the course was in very good shape. Greens were brown in color, but were actually rolling very fast.
It is no country club course, but I'd say Falcon Head is definitely one of the best public courses in Austin.
Course is tough right now!
The fairways are in great shape... The greens are running super fast and most have severe burn spots that really made it tough to enjoy. The "signature" hole, looked awful! Nothing like hitting a perfect iron onto the green, only to find you have to putt thru a bunker for a birdie. This wasnt the only hole like this. I would say this is the worst I've seen the course in a long time. Also, this is not really their fault but having the no.9 fairway so close to the driving range, really is disappointing when you drive up and there are 15 range balls some yellow some white scattered around the fairway, just does not give a good vibe to players.
The staff was great!
Excellent ! I would love to play again maybe with a discount
Immaculate course, challenging and rewarding.
It's been several years since I last played Falconhead. Due to the great deal on GolfNow, I went out and played this last Sunday. First, the staff there was all very friendly and helpful. There were marshals throughout the course, and all of them were very kind and upbeat. Second, the course itself was in fantastic condition. It can be a challenge to keep a course very well maintained in the Central Texas heat, but the staff did a great job. Sure there were some spots on greens that were getting brown, but all the greens rolled pure and true. The fairways and the rough were excellent, and all in all, everything was top notch.
The course itself is challenging and long, depending on what tees you play. However, I found that it was also quite forgiving if you missed in the right spots.
I will definitely be back to play this course as often as possible. It was a superb golf experience through and through.
The course needs water
They are going to lose some teeboxes and greens if they are not careful.
Challenging but Fair. Has unique and diverse features
Greens are great and run true. Staff is quite able and ready to
answer questions. Very friendly patrons as well. I play in a nine hole league that is quite a lot of fun and is great for meeting other players. Will continue to play here as much as I can
Excellent conditon, a must play.
Falconhead is suitable for all level of players, it has up to 6 sets of tees, with course length from 5170 to 7181 yards. It is a PGA Signature course suitable for a PGA tournament. It has several high risk/high rewards holes and challenges not only your mind but your physical skills.
