Spectacular scenery but the course is in poor condition
This may be the most spectacular course I have every played but it was just reconfigured and was in poor condition with many scorched areas and low spots that were all very soggy. The starter also “inserted” a slow foursome between the 11:50 tee time and our 12:00 tee time, so we had to wait at every hole. Then a marshal had the audacity to ask us to pick up our pace. Not what I expected for $250/person and the need to stay at the overpriced Inn.
A "new' course still growing in
The 'new" Entrada redesigned by David McLay Kidd was still growing in a bit, but the changes are being universally praised for adding more playability and more ground-game options for the aging and high-handicap members who are playing the course.
The very popular lava holes on the back nine have been widened and altered so golfers won't lose as many balls. Public access is available for people who stay at the Inn at Entrada, which offers a series of well-appointed condos/villas along the course just a short distance from the clubhouse. The food inside is top class, and a new TopTracer Range add to a high-end experience.
The Lava field
.... is awesome. Rocks go from red clay on the front to black lava on the back. The course conditions were very good, as expected from a private club. Landing areas from tee box were generous but Johnny Miller put in smallish greens ( ala Nicklaus) with requisite undulations, which made for an exacting second shot.
The course, played from the back tees, should be rated at a higher slope then shown on the card.
For the record, I prefer larger greens.
As a guest of the Inn, it was worth playing and enjoying the club house food.
Best Course in Utah
This is the best course in Utah. Too bad it is for members only. Challenging, manicured, and great service make it the best.
Nice resort course
Played right as the heat was starting to show up. Course was in nice shape but the greens were coming out of punch maintenance. Course is interesting as the finishing holes play thru LAVA beds! It is tough but fair with no stupid blind holes like on some resort courses! As we were staying there we got really nice treatment. Used my Troon card for discount. Will definitely play again!
