Great course, little pricey but it is a state park so to be expected. Conditions shave always been good and well taken care of. Sometimes pace is a little slow.

A hidden gem

It was my first time playing here and I really enjoyed the layout. The course is pretty open, but there are enough woods and hazards around to make it tighter than it initially appears. Greens, fairways, and bunkers were in great shape. The ranger was friendly and helpful. There is a small locker room with showers and also a snack bar. The lodge also sits on the course. I'm definitely coming back.

Best course in the area!

I recently moved to the area and have played a few of the courses so far, this course is by far the best course for the price. The fairways and greens are in GREAT shape! The only recommendations I made were to level out some of the tee boxes and to drag the sand traps in the mornings. The membership is the cheapest in the area and I will be getting one the next time I visit!

Nice course

The day was nice but after a week of rain the course was very wet. Some holes had some mushy fairways and standing water in sand traps. Cart path only the whole course. It was packed so pace was slow. Had to wait a few minutes on the tee box on each hole. This is a long course for me but the fairway and greens were cut nicely. Even with damp greens they had good speed. I enjoy this course because of the friendly staff and laid back atmosphere. They also give discounts for first responders and military. So even with the wet conditions and pace of play it was definitely worth it.

First time, not the last

Got off on a quick dewsweeper round before work. Course in terrific shape, sans some casual bunkers from withering rains. However, path-only was lifted after one hole, and it was a perfect setup to zip around and see this RTJ design. Everyone there is just a pleasure to talk to, friendly and knowledgeable. I'll be back, and that right soon!

Great Course be weary of booking online

Gentleman in the pro shop gave me crap for booking through the website, stating I could save money if I did it at the pro shop and the course doesn't receive any of the money.

I tried explaining that I paid 20$ less due to the hot deal therefore I would’ve paid more at the pro shop if I just walked in. I think he might just of been uneducated about the golf now system and WV state course relationship. I doubt WV would use their booking system if they didn’t get any of the money from booking tee times. Overall not a huge deal, but you shouldn’t give golfers a hard time about booking online if it’s something accessible direct through the courses website.

Course was in great shape significantly better than when I played last year. Pace of play was decent. Driving range was closed.

Best kept secret in West Virginia

This course is a Robert Trent Jones course. Been playing it for a couple of years and it just keeps getting better and better. I highly recommend.

WHAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN....

Have played this course every year or two for many years. Played today (Sept 19th, 2020) and it was a terrible experience from beginning to end--which is a shame for such a nice and beautiful layout! For the millions they are putting into re-doing the Lodge, they need to put a few $$ into the course---most especially the greens and fringes. But more on that later--when I booked this yesterday, the afternoon seemed very open from the available tee times--so I was shocked at a nearly 5 hour round! On the way in, there was a cross-country race going on--and they saw fit to completely block the road into the course--had to wait for 20 minutes or more even though I had a tee time etc.... . This was completely mis-managed--the runners were few and far between and with a little organization and a "traffic cop"--the handful of cars could have easily and safely been waived through during the substantial breaks between runners---but--guess they figured blocking the only way in and out was perfectly fine. Needless to say, this led to a most rushed and stressed beginning to my round--and the course provided no warning on this when booking. Neither did they indicate the greens had been aerated--though I should have asked--but it would be common courtesy to point that out. Apparently there was a very early in the season frost delay that delayed and backed things up--though I had to learn that from other golfers when backed up on a tee part way through the round--the Pro Shop nor Starter said nothing about this--nor did they make any attempt whatsoever to group 2 somes or Singles together given the circumstances. I literally waited on EVERY shot (other than putts....)throughout the entire round. And to top it off the Idiots behind me kept hitting into me even though it was very, very evident that no one was going anywhere and I was waiting on those in front of me. And then there were the greens---aerated yes--but healing up a bit--but that really just disguised a bit what TERRIBLE shape the greens were in---brown and diseased splotches--and these continued into the fringes in many cases, where there was no grass at all at times. Most putts were like putting through shag carpet--and this was not just due to the aeration---but then there were putts that were quite fast since the underlying grass on the greens was already dead. Actually managed to make a few putts---but anything within about 3 to 5 feet should have been a "gimme" as you literally had no idea where it was going. This used to be a nice course--but the greens have either had major issues or otherwise been completely neglected. What a shame and disappointment......!!
