golf course in need of some TLC.
This is a great hunk of real estate that has obviously been neglected for quite some time. I understand that at one time this was quite a golf course but that previous ownership had allowed for the decline. Current staff seems, quite aware of the conditions and well intentioned. With the amount of traffic present on a Friday afternoon, there should be the start of an influx in the capital that will be required to get this course back on its feet. Unfortunately, with limited golf resources at my disposal, I would not return while the course is in the present state. Should I return to Door County, I would rather pay a little bit more for another DC attraction.
Much improved in 2014...
I've always liked Cherry Hills, unfortunately the course had fallen on some harder times in recent years. The current management is making a concerted effort to improve the course, and it is much better than it has been in the last several years. The staff was friendly and helpful. It's not the best course in Door County, but I think it offers a fun change of pace from other courses in the area, I would go back to play again.
Rough shape
The resort is closed and the bank now owns the resort and course. The course is being leased and is slowly improving but it is in very rough shape. We played 13 yrs. ago and it was a better course. Needs a new owner who can afford to put some money in it.
Pleasant hilly terrain. great view and honest greens.
Nice place to golf. Good scenery and location. Very pleasant
Cost to play was only $25 w/cart, but not worth the price.
Course is in need of major work. Fairways are all weeds. Greens are in bad shape. Most Rough has not been mowed for a long time, so if you don't hit the fairway, the ball is lost.
Very challenging
Greens good condition very difficult rounded and undulating. Fairways all slope to one side or the other requires course knowledge. Rough uneven in length and somewhat weedy making for difficulty finding ball. Cart paths need paving Fussy golfers wanting pristine conditions won/t be happy but it is still a fun course to play
It has possibilities .
The course was closed in the past so the fairways are not in good shape. The greens are better. Some nice scenery and tight holes. The back 9 is nicer. 4 of us golfed for $60 with cart for 18. I would not pay the full price for this course . I'd check Golfnow.com for the best tee time.
Badly in need of maintenance & upkeep
I was as if about two weeks previous the grounds crew said, 'okay, if you're not going to pay us, we're done,' and walked off. i.e. The tees had not been mowed in two weeks; the fairways had not been mowed in at least ten days; the tee markers had not been moved in a month, etc., etc.
Improving
Greens have recovered a lot. Fairways required enhancing the lie at times. Good to see this enjoyable course making a comeback after a tough last year.
Fair value for condition.
Fareways were bumpy with hardly a flat area and grass was too long. It's been wet lately, but more cutting of grass and green trimming would help a lot. Some fun holes and in decent shape. More maintenance and this course could return to the hidden gem it once was.
Good Course
Ok, i will be straight. Cherry Hills has seen better days. Early in 2012 a water pump was hit by lightening and was out of commission. On top of that, the area experienced a very dry summer. Those two things did not work in this course's favor. Even now the course needs attention but it is being worked on. It is already in MUCH better shape than 2012. The course is under new management for 2013 and they are doing a great job in getting the course back to it's glory days. It will take time to achieve that though so that must be remembered. In the mean time, the fees are about half of what other courses charge so you can go out and play a round on a improving course without breaking the bank. So I believe this course is a great value.
Waste of money
This is a horribly maintained golf course. It's really too bad, because it used to be a better place. To top it off, we booked our tee time and paid online. When we got there, the large man behind the counter told me how much it was to play. When I told him that I paid in advance, he said "No you didn't, you have to pay here". I told him that I have the receipt confirming pre-payment, pulled it out of my pocket and handed it to him. When I did, he took the sheet, didn't even look at it and set it down and grudgingly confirmed my payment. Under his breath, added a snotty comment about the ridiculous rate that I paid. Don't waste your time here.
Course in very poor condition
Fairways were hard and not watered. Greens were horrendous.
Worst course I ever played.
