Just a great course!
Incredibly fun course to play! Greens were nuts but nuts in a good way. Fairways were spectacular too. I would play this course everyday if I could.
Annual Tradition
My wife and I have played this course every year that it has been open. It's her favorite. The course was car path only on this trip and somewhat wet but very playable. It's a tough course to walk even from the cart path so we were exhausted after the round.
However, still a great round and excellent course. If you're in the area, and a golfer, play this course. You won't be disappointed!
Conditions
The fairways were in average shape. The greens need some work.
Beautiful Course, with less than Beautiful Greens
While it is hard to beat Wild Rock's beauty, our golf experience was lessened by the greens. They were wooly and thus slow, but more importantly, the poa annua (I believe it is poa) throughout the greens made them very, very bumpy. Perhaps it will be better after Spring. The deer and scenery will keep me coming back. For such a nice place, hitting off of mats is somewhat disappointing. The gal working the bags was awesome.
Not a higher end experience.
The pros:
Course is really pretty.
The tee boxes and fairways were great.
Course design off the tee box is fantastic.
Cons:
This is were it takes a bad turn.
First I show up and nobody is around. They put all the carts back behind the clubhouse and it requires a flight of stairs down. You can't get your clubs from your car, nor can you take the cart to the parking lot. And with not a worker around for assistance I didn't know where I was supposed to go.
Driving range wasn't great. A number of cut up balls, forced to use not so good mats and plastic tees that were so bent it took a min each time to get a ball to stay.
Greens were in poor shape. And some of the pin locations were downright silly. I shot a 77 from the tips, so it is like I am just mad I played bad.
Approach shots are a gimmick. Most elevated so you can't see the green complex. And with silly pin placements it's mostly luck instead of skill
Waste area, bunkers? I don't know what they were but they are stupid, a lot of gravel and weeds. Luckily I missed them all day.
Starter was really nice, but I ended up getting sent out alone and had to wait on every single shot.
And finally. The stupid loud chime from the cart gps. My god did that single handedly ruin the round. I am hanging out enjoying the quiet and pretty views. Then out of nowhere I get an obnoxiously loud chime for an ad, or to tell me to repair ball marks. Which apparently nobody does. It ruined the round honestly.
