Over priced and bad. Gimmick course
For 47 dollars on a weekday you would think the course would be okay. This course is not okay. The fairway is like rough and the greens are like fairways at a lot of courses I play. There is no maintenance apparently because there is overgrowth everywhere and the cart paths are horrible. They are trying gimmicks with the layout apparently but it does not work. I feel horrible if East players really play here.
Golf
Front 9 was beautiful and challenging , back 9 was challenging but was not taken care of very well besides the greens .
Worth playing
It rained all round so we weee delayed in starting but we got our round in. Golf shop persons and the kitchen hostess were very friendly and helpful. Traveled from Missouri down to Florida abs stopped to play this course, would return during another season for sure.
Poor condition
First the positive, very nice staff. Ok that’s it! I shot an 82 which was my low round for the year. The course condition is pretty poor. Tee boxes not level and like teeing off in the front yard but with patches of sand. Also major holes in fairway, some filled with run off concrete or cinder blocks. The cart paths, although mostly “paved” or concrete, very rough and treacherous in spots bc there is a drop off 6-8” and if you’re not careful, I could see it being easy to roll the cart.
Too many ads!!
I love playing with GPS, but this course bombards you with ad after ad. Not only ads but it beeps every time they come on. Last year I played 79 different courses and I have never seen anything like it.
Getting better.
Greens are respectable, for a facility that is teaching golf course management you would think it would be better.
Only issue was with the cart. Parking break would not work and the constant notifications from the cart gps are a bit annoying
GpTees and greens need a lot of work. Overall poor conditions.
You tend to have low expectations for a public municipal course. Lion hills, falls far below that. I can undersend a green or two with bare patches. But here, nearly all the greens had dead spots and bear dirt. Same is true for the tee boxes - bare spots and hard pan dirt on most. $48 with cart, is an unfair price for these conditions.
Fun course for a great price!
I always enjoy playing this course. Challenging holes and you have to manage your fairway drive. The greens are in good condition. If your in the Columbus, MS area, this is a fun course to play!⛳️
Not worth playing even less than half price.
Bad tee boxes
Fairways aren’t bad but if you miss them on the front 9 your ball is not playable and most likely gone forever with the exception of hole 8. Back 9 is much more open with playable shots from the rough. Hazards on the back 9 are punishing but fair.
Greens are painted green making it harder to read the grain. The grass is obviously dying and it’s kept so low you can’t read the grain at the cup either. They roll extremely fast despite feeling soft underfoot and appearing as if they would be slow. A couple of them played significantly slower than the majority causing trust issues with speed the rest of the round.
Bunkers were well kept for dependable shots out of the sand. That and the increased playability on the back 9 are the only two positives. If you like really fast greens you can call that a highlight too I suppose.
I usually come home with more balls than I leave with. I lost 9 at Lion Hills. Admittedly it was one of my worst rounds but the course provides no relief at all on the front 9.
In my opinion, there are at least two courses in Columbus that are better for similar or lower cost. Especially when you include the cost of balls.
