The Golf Course at Hacienda Pinilla

About
The Golf Course at Hacienda Pinilla offers a 7,300-yard course designed by Mike Young. He emphasized details and conformed holes to the landscape's slopes and contours. Risk vs. reward is the game, no two rounds are alike, and watch out for those trees.
A round at The Golf Course at Hacienda Pinilla begins on a par-4 that forces you to tee left-center - keep low: it's windy - and midiron to the green, minding the pot bunker. The 14th is the longest, 601 yards, so combine muscle with wind and shoot middle before using a wood to the oblong green; as compensation for your hard work, the hole has the course's best ocean view. The 14th hole is only the longest by two yards: The 18th measures 599 yards into the wind. Drive right-center, use a wood for the second, being cautious to avoid a hidden bunker, and then short-iron to a perched green.
After all that, you'll be glad to know that the The Golf Course at Hacienda Pinilla does indeed have a 19th hole, the El Corral Turn House, which was built to blend in with the natural environment.

Fun Course!
Beautiful, great condition, fast pace of play and most of all a really fun course to play!
Costa Rica is not necessarily a golf destination. I think that’s why many players are disappointed in what this small country delivers. Costa Ricans don’t play golf because it is too expensive. Courses rely on natural irrigation - even though they have infrastructure in place - to save on operating costs. That’s why fairways here are crusty, though they do play firm and fast. Greens are excellent, due to syringing.
At Hacienda Pinilla, there aren’t a ton of interesting holes. The front nine slumbers through one gentle dogleg after another. The back, nine, however, does provide enough to hold your interest, starting with the 10th. The approach crosses a barranca to a wild green that can offer some really cool pin placements. What you really play here for is the two ocean holes, particularly the par-3 15th that plays out toward the water to a lovely green site that emerges from a corridor of trees.
This course was a huge disappointment...
The playing conditions at this golf course were terrible. The fairways and tee boxes had no grass. We played off dirt all day. According to the pro shop staff this is normal for this time of year (the end of the "dry season"). I wouldn't pay $20 to play this course again. Their $150 rack rate is outrageous.
Wind and more wind
Arrived at the course 1.5 hours prior to tee time. The clubhouse only had 1 set of rental clubs that were in terrible shape that 4 players had to share. Once we teed off the wind arrived and it stayed at a solid 25 mph with much higher gusts.
This course is very forgiving with wide fairways even under adverse weather conditions it was fair as well as fun.
High Season Golf in Guanacaste
Course was in good shape for this time of year. Temps are in the low to mid 90’s so there was a significant amount of roll in the fairways.
Nice course
Well maintained course with a lot of scenery.
Bunkers were in impeccable shape. Greens were challenging, very fast. Ground is hard so you’ll feel like Rory off the tee.
The only negative I found was club rentals are $50USD. And I have a feeling it was a gringo scam as the man at the pro shop charged me, said the credit/debit machine wasn’t working and I should pay cash, but when I informed him I only had credit, it magically worked instantly.
Relatively good course with nice strategic holes and challenging layout.
More amenities such as on course beverage service would have been preferred.
Also, the greens had recently been punched so did not roll very true.
Too many other guests had not fixed their ball marks on the greens.
This is a larger golf problem in general.
Rainy season
Rainy season conditions prevail. Soggy spots abound but are easily avoidable. It’s all worth it to see the course in its green lush majesty. It’s a different course than in the dry season. Pura Vida
Long course when wet
We played the day after a heavy rain. Overall the course drained well. The greens were good and incredibly hard to read. Our group had way too many three putts. Would I play it again - maybe not but one time is good.
Excellent golf course and staff
First time at Hacienda Pinilla. Tough, but fair course. The Par 3 hole on the back nine towards the ocean is spectacular!
Better than I expected
I have played Reserva Conchal a few times and liked that course. Played Pinella for the first time. Loved it. Greens were great, decent fairway, good layout and great value for the money. I would rather play this course more than paying exorbitant prices at Reserva Conchal. Will definitely go back.
