Belleview Biltmore Golf Club near Clearwater, Florida: A blast from the past worth savoring

BELLEAIR, Fla. -- Opened in 1925, Belleview Biltmore Golf Club is one of the few Donald Ross designs in Florida open to the public. Having passed through a series of owners in recent years, the city of Belleair saved the course and made it available to its residents and visitors.

In true fashion, these Ross greens are difficult to read. Better yet, though, this Clearwater-area golf course flows well through natural Florida coastal land where waterfowl -- including ospreys -- reside.

At 6,614 yards, this par 71 plays tougher than its yardage with a good variety of holes, including a tough finishing stretch that ends with a 438-yard par 4.
