Foxborough Country Club: Friendly to Patriots and all other golfers, too

FOXBORO, Mass. -- First opened in 1957, Foxborough Country Club, located just minutes from Gillette Stadium, is a challenging Geoffrey Cornish design favored by Patriot and non-Patriot fans alike.

A mixture of parkland and tree-lined forested holes, this 6,849-yard, par-72 golf course has four sets of tees, lush fairways and smooth, sloping greens. It was one of Cornish's favorite designs, which numbered in the hundreds, and was a course he would renovate and add to for some 30-plus years after it first opened.

Several current and former New England Patriots are either members of the golf course or play it frequently, including former quarterback Steve Grogan, who helped guide the team to its first Super Bowl in 1986. Support of the team was never more evident than last year when members of the semi-private club designed a flag to honor All-Pro quarterback Tom Brady, who was facing a possible suspension for the so-called "Deflategate" scandal the year before.
