South Course at Innisbrook Resort near Tampa is no small test of golf

PALM HARBOR, Fla. -- One of four 18-hole golf courses at Innisbrook Resort, the South Course may be somewhat on the short side, but it has plenty of bite.

Designed by Larry and Roger Packard and opened in 1970, the 6,400-yard course is a mixture of styles. It starts out in the hardwoods, but by the time you get to the fifth hole, the course opens up to wide fairways and lots of bunkering and mounds, exposing itself to the winds off the Gulf of Mexico. There's also water on 10 holes, so it's anything but a pushover. But with four sets of tees, measuring as short as 4,925 yards, the golf course is also very junior, senior and women friendly.
