El Tigre
Booked with GolfNow for $90 USD and teed off @ 12:50. Played in 3:10 with a couple in front of us and a couple behind. The course was in good shape and the greens rolled better than they looked, guessing speed was around 10 on the stimp meter.
The staff are really friendly, beers on course were 56 pesos ea.
The course is surrounded by homes and condos but for us didn't come into play at all. Good putting green and large grass driving range get big thumbs up with me.
I will play here again during my stay but I will look for a Hot Deal, as I will with all courses in the PV area, $150 - $200 US is unreasonable.
One of the best courses in Puerto Vallarta
I have golfed several courses in Puerto Vallarta and El Tigre is by far the best.
This is a great layout.
Everything is excellent at el tigre. Some of the greens had some dead spots repaired. I wish they would keep the restaurant open till the last players are off the course. Otherwise awesome.
Nice Day Tough Day
Nice day on a course that offers a good challenge. Water and sand, doglegs left and right, make you use all clubs in the bag. Sand traps need love and that is the only negative aspect.
Good value
Good layout, facilities and pace of play for your dollar.
Be ready for water!
This is a beautiful course and the greens were great. The fairways are tight with water and long bunkers lateral to most holes. Not good for a beginner for sure. My son enjoyed it and it was challenging for him at intermediate status. Recommend it for sure. Book through your hotel or look for Golf now discounts....
Immaculate course with wild wildlife!
I played El Tigre about 10 years ago and was not impressed. This time I was! The course is now well groomed. The greens held well and rolled true. Lots of water, countless sand traps and numerous trees created challenges for each hole. Iguanas the size of gators roam the fairways along with a wide range of species of cranes, egrets, wild ducks and exotic birds. Service was excellent, including a ranger that provides fresh water and asks if you are enjoying your round. Except for my score on this difficult course, I couldn't have asked for a more rewarding experience!
El Tigre is a good course
First round at this course. Its not too tough but it is wonderfully scenic and well located near Paradise Village. The golf shop staff were great and the starters were helpful, but could easily have done a better job of being welcoming and friendly. They did not really explain where the practice facility was located.
They did provide lots of water on a hot tropical day. WHich was nice.
el tigre in august
We play at El Tigre at least two times a year and always enjoy ourselves. The staff is excellent and I would highly recommend a lesson from the Pro Hector Rodriguez. We play 18 holes and in August the course is empty so can finish in 3.5 hours no problema.
beware of the mosquitos!
This is a very fun and well-groomed course. Lots of water & sand! My wife and I made the mistake of booking the very first tee-time to try and avoid the extreme heat, but had to deal with lots of pesky mosquitos for the first hour. Wait until 9am to tee off and you will not be bothered. Hole number 6 is an AMAZING Par 3 with an island green! Golf carts come with green fees and include GPS as well as way to order beverages, etc. The fees are pretty high, unless you are a member of Paradise Village or Playa Royale.
El tigre
The greens were punched the day before starter took off 30.00 off the 110.00 we paid.Even though there we punched still in decent shape, the course was in great condition lots of water!! Golf now price 110.00 ,golf website price 195.00
This is a fun course
Get your hands on a golf now hot deal and this is an excellent experience. I wouldn't pay the $175 to play it but I got a great rate and had a great time. Great service and great facilities. I was dissapointed with the greens with excessive amounts of sand on them but I hear it was end of season so just be aware. I would also recommend that you view all large bunkers as waste bunkers. Not much sand and lots of rocks and debris that you don't want to hit out of. Fun challenging layout.
A great layout in average condition
A great layout that was in very average condition, especially for the price. I don't think they get very much non member play. Grass driving range, bunker and large putting green. The course winds through homes and has many water hazards in play. If it was in better condition it would be a destination course. Greens had some goose grass in them, were thin in some spots and a bit on the slow side. Good roll in the fairways and while thin in a few spots I never really had a bad lie. GPS carts. Pace was fantastic, we went out as a twosome about a half hour after a bunch of member foursomes and never caught up until the 16th hole. Just in time to check out the caged animals by the 16th green and the Bengal Tigers (El Tigre) behind the 17th tee. Lots of Iguanas to be seen on the course too. A very affordable restaurant with a patio overlooking the 18th hole
el tigre is showing its age
Played El Tigre again after a two year hiatus . Joined two good guys from Bc and Alberta The course is showing some age, wear and tear The greens were better than some reviewers recently posted. The traps/ bunkers have always been firm. The staff always are some what guarded with non members They could not find my online golf now booking!! Anyway anywhere you are playing is a good day!!
Great Value
Course was in very good shape. We virtually had the course to ourselves. Played in under 4 hours which is how golf was meant to be played. If El Tigre would offer more tee times with deals they would attract more golfers.
Pleasant not overwhelmingly memorable.
Great facility friendly accommodating staff. A couple of well laid out holes. The par 3 #6 stood out. The rest have that "didn't I just play this hole" look. All the greens were in good shape and had the right speed for me. Fairways and ruff had a consistent dry look. It wasn't a busy day but the marshalls could have help the two groups in front to move quicker. It was a hot afternoon so I appreciated the mini cooler with 3 bottles of water. I figure the best price for this course was half of what I paid relative to other courses I've experienced.
Great cours
À bit overpriced but an excellent cours
Vacation Course
Greens had been punched 2 weeks ago ad a lot of sand on the greens but they roiled true. Fairly open course in a gated community which if you played any of the 100s of Florida courses, this is equivalent. Staff was super friendly! Course was in great shape (note greens above). Overall a nice day but not at the full rate.is expensive. Look fro the Hot Deal!
Greens and service
Played this course many times over the years. This year was a little different because we were not staying at the property. We stayed near the marina in Puerta Villarta. We played the Marina Vallarta, Vista Villarta, Flamingo, and El Tigre. El Tigre had the best greens by far and the entire course was in great condition. It is by far the best value in the area. The other courses have battled a fungus of some type and the greens were completely burned out but not El Tigre. They had some damage don't get me wrong, but overall in great shape and a great value. Expected to see some of the other courses in the area reduce their greens fees based on the horrible condition their greens were in but that was not the case!
El Tigre was an excellent course for GolfNow Fire sale price
El Tigre golf course pro's and cons.
Pros: Great course that hosts LPGA event.
Uncrowded when we played. Literally two singles played thru our 3some. Good bermuda greens and descent driving range and putting greens. Pin settings were good and made you think about your shot. Hole #17 has live Siberian Tigers used to repopulate the slaughtered species.
Cons: Club rental price was insane at $50. Could not go to range until 30 minutes prior to tee time thus I requested my clubs to go to putting green. Sand in traps was hard pan and gravelly.
Many of those sandy areas that are rocky and hard pan are not technically sand traps. They are a hazard but the harder compacted sand/gravel should make it easier to advance the ball. The sand traps around the greens were lighter and fluffier those other collection areas.
